The update that wasn't.

Something went wrong with last night's server update, at least with the part involving the UN proposal list. There are several proposals still in the list which should have expired on Thursday, but they're still there.

To compound the problem further, we now have a proposal (Repeal "UN Labor Relations Act") at quorum which should have expired last night. I was watching it while the update was running and it was 8 approvals short of quorum, now it is in queue.

My question is, can this proposal be manually deleted, or will it be allowed to go to vote? I've sent a GHR on this subject but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask about it in moderation as well.

Thanks.

The date on the proposal isn't always accurate; it might not be an error. (Though I dearly wish it were: this is taking ping-pong to new, ridiculous extremes.)

Sometimes proposals to expire on xday expire on x+1day; this might be what has happened with the repeal? I think it's dependent on when the proposal is submitted.

Really? I'll keep that in mind next time I submit something. But seriously, last night's update was weird. I was checking the UN page frequently during update and a couple of times I saw a PHP error where you normally see the list of people applying to or leaving the UN, delegacy changes, etc.

The whole update seemed to freeze up for 15 or 20 minutes.

Really?

Yes, really. I noticed it, I'm going to guess, at least a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't think much of it. *shrug*

*shrugs right back*

If it goes to vote that's fine. The mods may be reluctant to delete it manually and it would take an admin to delete it after the voting starts. It should have expired last night though.

Based on this and other threads, it's pretty obvious that the UN update didn't complete properly last night.

I've deleted all 4 proposals that were labeled "Voting Ends: Thu Aug 2 2007". There probably should have been some of the Friday proposals deleted as well, but I don't have access to that level of detail, since the game usually does it automatically.

If it doesn't update tonight, we'll make sure an admin looks into the issue ASAP.

Just got deleted a few minutes ago, along with three others:

5 minutes ago: The proposal "Rendition Flights" was removed from the floor.

5 minutes ago: The proposal "To serve and protect" was removed from the floor.

5 minutes ago: The proposal "Repeal "UN Labor Relations Act"" was removed from the floor.

5 minutes ago: The proposal "Repeal "Metric System "" was removed from the floor.

Just so you know (and in case it might help addressing the issue), Fris, as I said earlier in this thread, I first noticed it happening with proposals a couple of weeks or so ago. My apologies, but I didn't think much of it, assuming that if I had noticed it, that it had more than likely already been spotted (I don't poke my head into this forum or Technical very often). But after seeing the threads today about delegacies not updating, it seems it's not the simple little problem that I'd shrugged off. I wish now that I'd reported it. Sorry about that. If I spot any weirdness in the future, though, I'll be sure to report it.

Thanks Fris! I don't mind people trying to repeal UNLRA, that's just part of the game. I didn't want a repeal going to vote due to a technical glitch though.
