It has been a long term position of the board that threats are a no no from what I have seen

Welcome to the club. Everyone is offended by some statement one time or another. Does that mean the statement shouldn't be said? By all means let it be said. If you don't agree with it, you can always use the ignore function.

As for this thread, i'd say its not actionable. It is clearly meant as a joke. but then again, you can just ask the poster him/herself to explain it.

no emoticon can de-threaten a threat but that is only if it was ment as a threat and not sarcasm

Do you take that as a credible threat. Because if thats a threat, many posters, myself included, should receive the mod hammer.

What I think this amounts to is that New Mitanni said something anti-Islam, and you and the op want to see him deated for disagreeing with you.

Now, on the other hand, if he would have said "Don't call me a honky, you dumbass, and if you do it again , i'll break your knee caps" then that can be taken as a threat.

I don't think it could be more obvious that its a joke.

You really hit the nail on the head with that one. The perceived offense is so slight and inconsequential as to not deserve any attention whatsoever. However, the OP wishes to exact revenge upon the poster because of his unpopular views. I can guarantee you that if a poster with whom the OP had agreed had posted that, this topic would not exist.

I suggest that you civilly (if possible) debate that poster in the proper forum. You're on nothing more than a thinly-veiled crusade to purge this forum of those who dare disagree with you.

Having reviewed several pages of that thread, I feel there is nothing truly actionable. New Mittani's threat is in extremely poor taste, and coupled with an inflammatory posting history it looks even worse. The ;) face does little to negate a statement that essentially says "Do this, or I will inflict physical harm upon your person." Only the fact that other reactions in the thread to it seemed joking about it spared him an official warning or ban.

However, I would strongly advise all participants in that thread to keep their cool. There is a lot of borderline trolling, thread hijacking, and baiting that I saw. I don't want to get called on again because somebody crosses the line into actual flaming, y'hear?

You would be wrong, if I happened to see that sort of comment from any poster with that sort of aggressive posting style I would have done the same.

I have had to do it in the past with people I ideologically agree with and if it comes up again I will do it again

I don't come to the mod forum often but I do it when necessary like we are supposed to do and no amount of insults nor whining about people "coming to the mods" will move me from doing the right thing.

As for "exacting revenge" this is the first post that I can remember discussing this particular member despite his "style" I appear to not be very intent on this revenge thing.

Either way the mods have made their decision so be it, it was only my duty to report
