When I logged on this afternoon, I found that one of the moderaters had closed one of my threads, simply because my nation contains the word "Hatarian" in it.

I know that the moderaters have deleted the nation Hataria for threatening to sue the NS boards again. That was a good idea, as he brought nothing to the table.

However, I must contest your wanting to completely purge the memory of that nation from the boards. Yes, my username on these boards is Wilhelmsborough, and that was the original name of the country which I RP with. However, a couple months ago, myself and several other nations went to war against Hataria, and took away all his colonies as a result. With these lands under my control, I decide to rename my country the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire.

Now, at the time, I had no idea that Hataria would eventually be deleted from the forums, but I'm glad that it was done. As far as I'm concerned, the nation "Hataria" is dead. It will never come back and RPed in the way that upset so many players. But the history lives on. What I did during that RP from a few months ago is very important to my history. Hataria may be deleted, but I don't want to lose that IC history. And part of that IC history is the renaming of my state to the "Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire."

As for the closed thread itself, the only thing Hataria-related about it was the history that took place, and the nations that I met along the way. The purpose of the thread to gain allies.

I am not the person who created Hataria, nor do I aspire to RP anywhere near the way he did. But with his profile deleted, Hataria is just a seven-letter word who's memory will become irrelevent, be it IC or OOC. All I want to do is take my new name and continue to play the game without any troubles.

Moderators, please unlock my thread.

I just had a question.

In the thread that was closed, the moderator said that deleted nations could not be used as fodder for rps.
Would not the following thread be considered to be using the deletion of Hataria as fodder for an RP and would the closed thread be Wilhelmsborough's second actual violation of such concept?

I've read your request and it sounds reasonable. I admit I hadn't fully examined the contents of your thread, but in my defense it should be pointed out that we had to deal with a lot of this kind of stuff after Hataria bit the big one. Some people, for whatever reason, even did it after I cautioned against such storylines in IRC. C'est la vie.

I'll go back over the thread and see if it falls within my parameters. I guess we can't get too picky about using the name Hataria for a region or whatever, but what I'm worried about is people pouncing over his population, military hardware and so on. I thought that's what I was seeing in your thread (albeit at a glance) so I locked it. To me its like dogpiling a corpse, and I didn't want the Hataria situation to be more of a clusterfuck after we got rid of him.

That said, I can't expect players to eliminate or otherwise retcon massive portions of their backstory just because someone ran amok of us. If this really is just based off a backstory, and what I find matches up with your claims in your first post, I'll unlock it.

Also, I know about the Steppe Empire thread and I'm trying to figure out how to handle that. I suspect I'll need to be talking about it a lot in the Lair, so I can figure out where we all stand on this. I'll get back to you guys when I sort some more of this out.

That thread was created before Hataria was deleted.

Okay, I'm done. I'm reversing myself and unlocking the thread. Try not to look shocked, it actually does happen occasionally :p

It seems to be based on backstory and I didn't see any explicit reference to you seizing Hatarian land/population/assets/etc so as far as I can tell, it should be okay so long as you don't take advantage of his DEAT for an in-game advantage. If Hataria is on a map or something and you want to use it as a representation of some previously acquired holding, that's fine.

I personally wouldn't do it myself under the circumstances, but I won't rule against it. Given the volume of hate that Hataria has attracted over the years, it could be easy for some people to say "well, I invaded him once and kept some soldiers there," so I urge prudence.

I suppose some people will assume Hataria was flushed down a giant oceanic toilet, but others may prefer to assume that some cataclysm destroyed all of its people/infrastructure and that the land is still there. I suppose its up to the player, but whatever you end up doing, just don't use any Hatarian relics for an in-game advantage.

I apologize for the lock, but I still think my reaction was a good one under the circumstances. I hope this clears things up a bit about the Hatarian situation.
