Quick question about FreedomAndGlory

He claims that anyone referring to him as "FAG" will be reported (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=12782014#post12782014)to the moderators as flaming. It's just an abbreviation of his name, can we get a preemptive ruling on this one?

Given the pattern to his posting topics I'd bet he picked the name FreedomAndGlory just to play the victim in his trollish little routine.

Not a mod, here, but...

To clarify; if people take offense at the use of "FAG" as an acronym for "FreedomAndGlory", they are idiots. Now there are a lot of idiots in this world, but if they complain about this they will not have a case. You may use the acronym "FAG" for "FreedomAndGlory". If you're worried about it, you can use "F.A.G." or "F&G" or "F'n'G" or something.

Since I still have some faint hope in the rationality of humanity, I do not believe that this will be a problem.

I don't know what the OTHER mods think, though. And, if I'm offending by quoting you mods here, my apologies.

It's probably safe. For one thing, I don't think I've EVER seen a mod overrule another mod.

If he didn't want to be abbreviated "FAG," he should have picked another name. Similarly, I wouldn't pick names like Demonic Inverted Chronos Killer, Junior Educated Rich Kid, South Harmon Institute of Technology, or Teamsters Union Rig Drivers. People who pick names with such convenient acronyms are just asking for trouble. Sorry.

Granted, seeying "FreedomandGlory is a fag" is different from saying "FAG said blahblahblah..."

I have. But the point was also made in that thread that context would be taken into account. Anyone using that ruling to get around insulting F&G purposefully will likely be in for a bit of an unpleasant surprise, all things considered.

Tell that to the Cambridge University New Testament Society. ;)

Yes, they did exist.

I would think common sense should dictate: if FreedomandGlory says, "Don't call me FAG," then don't call him FAG.

F&G is the same number of characters and just as easy.

I may be incorrect, but I think the context in which Tsaraine answered was a third party NOT F&G asking if calling him FAG were flamebaiting. So long as F&G did not object, it was not. Now that he's made his preference known, we all know what not to use.

*Whines* But I'd have to press shift + 7! :p

(Minding, I HAVE been using F&G. Indeed, I think I was the first one to suggest this.)

I don't mind if I am referred to as "FAG" as long as I'm not called "a FAG." As long as it's evident that you are simply abbreviating my name without any devious undertones, I have no problem with it. For example, I feel offended by this post, in which the user refers to me as "the FAG."

I'm not surprised. That's borderline flaming (at least!).

Maybe you could petition people to call you "FrAG"?

You're telling him to ask people to FRAG him? :p

Maybe it'd work better if it became "FANG"? Or "FAGL"? Or simply, guess, F&G?

On a side note: He said in this thread that it depends on the intent. I have no intention of using FAG, but he said it's OK if it doesn't intend to offend.

That makes him sound like some sort of Rambo-esque forum hero.

Gotcha, I'll stick to calling him MTAE.

I also can't help but notice that a number of people in that thread were referring to FnG as Fag, which is something a lot of people would take offence to. Personally, I'd say calling him Fag would be over the line. FAG? No. It's clearly an abbreviation and unless used in a clearly derogatory manner (e.g. "Shut up, you FAG" or something of the sort) shouldn't be an issue.

I know it's been said before, but I noticed no one had brought up the fact that, for example, Swilatia was consistently referring to him as 'Fag' on the linked page, and FnG himself said right there that 'Fag' wasn't okay with him, but 'FAG' was.

If you could win a moderation thread you just did.
