new idea for forum rp posting

I think that it would be helpfull to include the designation of At "all time" to the rp system this would allow for all timelines to be able to intersect without causing undo stress to anyone. in fact though i really have no real pull i think it would be better to make it the standered format unless otherwise stated by the posters.

There are far too many roleplayers to implement such a thing. Not everyone plays with everyone else, not everyone even recognizes everyone else as 'existing' in the same level of reality as they do. It's freeform RP, which tends to mean 'like will attract like' and folks tend to play where they enjoy playing, with whom they enjoy playing with.

Some of us utilize a thing called 'fluid time' to take care of things, though you have to be careful when dealing with that while in the midst of a war or time-sensitive rps - it can get you called all sorts of nasty names and accused of cheating, see. Some of us also go along with a non-rules concept of 'broken reality' that allows us to accept the fact that some nations take up the same physical space (maps and such, everyone's free to say where they are) while not actually living on top of one another, or having histories that share the same concepts but differ, or come from an Earth in various timeframes such as modern, postmodern, future etc that you often hear associated with tech levels.

Trying to make folks conform to any one given style of 'how time works' is just never going to work, because everyone doesn't agree on how it's handled.

You'll probably run into some who go by the 'one day = one year' thing, there's others with different ideas, and there's some of us who jump around a bit and stick more to a relative real-time sort of parallel for the most part. It's all choice, and in the end, you just have to go with what works for you.

Story dragging, need to move your nation on a bit? Go for it. Be mindful of how you do it, and what seems to be acceptable in whatever group you choose to play with for the most part if it's things that change your military prowess or other such things (again, folks can and do get testy).

I'll warrant you'll have all sorts of people giving you all sorts of advice or trying to tell you 'this is how it goes' or 'that is how it works', but in the end, it really does come down to choice.

Good luck with breaking in, hope you find the sort of folks you're hoping to rp with out there, and most of all - remember to have fun.

Modern Tech/Future Tech is an artificial distinction, not one made by the forums. You can write any tech you can imagine (so long as it doesn't break one of the other rules - I do not want to have to delete anybody for having an industrial economy powered by raping kittens or anything).

The distinction is mostly present in the II forum, because (as a very broad rule of thumb) II tends to focus more on wars, and having your tank battalions blasted by orbiting Star Destroyers tends to be upsetting. It's less prevalent in the NS forum, which focuses (again, as a very broad rule of thumb) more on characters.

thank you for your time. i do see your points some of which are too disturbing even for me. i will defenately try to find a few "fluid time" threads and check them out. in fact thats why i decided to go with the whole sf genre in the first place cause i kinda thought that the main world was a little "full". but now i understand as its kind of a multiverse situation. also another question i changed my regions worldbook entry yesturday but it didn't go through. i was wondering was it cause of my listing that i had genetically altered all of my people to fit a Single sex as opposed to a binery sex system? or maybe my listing was just too big.

I'm 99.99% certain that it's because it was too large; the Region factbook entry isn't really intended to act as an "everything about this nation" page. You may wish to check out the Unofficial Official NationStates Wiki (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) instead.

And, while you're at the wiki, have a look at the Multiverse (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Multiverse). It ... sort of ... explains things. In a way.

An easy way out is to make puppets that represent your nation at different times/technologies or on different timelines -- eg, one nation the way it would be if President X was elected, the other the way it would be if President Y was elected. (Just make sure you've got only one registered UN nation, of course).
