Reread the response. Crazy Girl was the one who got dipped.
Given that you hear much more about the quality of Dutch chocolade than you do about Chicago confectioneries, probably a good call. If however you'd like to see Hack topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato wedges, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style_hot_dog) on a poppy-seed bun, you'd most likely get some mutual agreement.

Not necessarily just to you, and no, I didn't know where you were from. However, now everyone who reads this topic will know the absurdity of what you mid-westerners do to an innocent hot dog. German mustard and sauerkraut is all a proper dog needs, not being dragged through the garden.

I'd like to report Fris for flamebaiting all Chicagoans. Cuz if you think you can insult our hot dogs or our pizza and not get us to flaming and swearing, you got another thing coming.

Well quite honestly I am wondering why this even made three pages here in moderation.
Some consistency might not be a bad thing?
Please understand that I am not ragging on the Mods nor the OP...but when seemingly innocuous threads get moved or locked and then a thread which is spam (and violates the rules regarding posting in moderation I think?) and has heavy mod involvement with the spamming is not locked...well it makes one wonder what actually is acceptable.
I have noticed a tendency for quite random locks and moves of several threads. If I can face censure for posting then I want to be aware of what actually is acceptable.
If I had started this thread in Moderation....or other users would the thread have reached even page two?

You've been around a while. Pay attention. You'll notice that spam is always one of those judgement calls. Mods aren't against spam always or a lot more threads would end up there. Like every other rule here, the purpose of the spam rules is to keep things clean and keep the forums, each of them, serving there purpose. If you can have a little spammy fun and manage to not get in the way of that, you'll probably not see the thread moved.
Need examples? The hot girls thread. The NS Pub threads. All the threads CG just listed.
The mods aren't generally here to rain on your parade. They are generally the umbrella.

I'm all for the mods having a little spammy fun, it makes the whole thing more enjoyable for everybody, and I much enjoy reading the occasional thread here that veers off into some hilarious direction for a couple pages until the spammage gets old and it's locked.
Threads like this, however? A bit of a farce, really, to put it diplomatically.

Threads in the moderation forum do the same, only involving the mods. And the part that's being ignored is that when they do actually reach a point where they've served there purpose they also get locked. Again, example - http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=434572

Same poster. Same KIND of thread. So much for mod "bias". As per "If I had started this thread in Moderation....or other users would the thread have reached even page two?" I think it's pretty clear that the SAME user can get locked on the first page or not, so the implication that it lasted this long because it's CG is proven to be false.

Amazing. You are the only person who mentions Mod bias. I am not saying that there is Mod bias. I don't think there is. And even mooting the question of Mod bias is just plain silly and aggravates people.
If you had actually bothered to read my post, ask for clarification of the areas you are not sure of then I would not think you are just a Mod wannabe.
Now to give you some insight of what I am wondering about.
There have been threads that are seemingly arbitrarily being moved to spam. Some are not. All I am asking for is some kind of clarification. I do not want to get zapped or told off for spam. Yet I see here a thread that is spam. That also has massive Mod input.
You are not in a position to state anything regarding Mod action as you are not a Mod and therefore not able to speak for them in this particular case.
I am not a killjoy...I think the Mods should have the opportunity to have some fun with the people. The question is whether this forum is suitable.

You mentioned the OP stating that if it were you or anyone else that had posted this thread that it would not have lasted. That's not explicit, but it's certainly implicit.
As for the rest, I think it's pretty clear to anyone with eyes that its a disingenuous attempt to hide your complaint of "but Johnny did it too." Forget that what Johnny did is entirely different and that Johnny in the past has been treated exactly equally to you (as shown in the linked threads).

I don't think consistency from a thread to thread standpoint is all that important as long as the forums keep on an even keel. In fact I think any real consistency from thread to thread is about impossible.

You have been here awhile and if you did pay attention you'd notice the things I did. That's not an insult. It's a claim. You might not agree with it, but it's hardly insulting or even aggressive. What you have to say on the matter is no less than abusive and pretty clearly personally insulting - wannabe mod, "I bow to your utterly brilliant posting abilities.", "are too dense", "you have become paranoid", et al. But, hey, must be me looking for a scrap rather than you who have attacked anyone whose opinion you didn't like.
By the way, I've never spoken for the mods. I used explicit examples because doing so allows the mods (as I actually linked to them acting) to speak for themselves.
The rest is just my opinion on the subject in a thread that was NOT created for your bitch session. If you'd really wanted to ask your "innocuous question" without other than mod input there is, in fact, a way to do so.

The mods regularly point out the importance of context. One statement could be completely reasonable in another context but a flame in the context it was placed. Threads on the same subject have had one locked while another continues because a slight difference in style or content. Spam is an even more squishy issue. That's why mods are people rather than a computing engine that just looks for certain aspects that make a thread or post illegal.

Wannabe Mod - you sure act like one. That is my opinion.
Dense - Yes as you obviously (after I explained my question on more than one occasion) are unable to comprehend what I am posting.
Posting abilities - size 0 text...yeah I think I am justified in stating my observation.

You repeat your flames and even up some of them a notch. I don't think flames in moderation are for me to drop or not drop.
I offered that you were throwing personal barbs (another name for insults) and you said "like..." and gave my statement as an example, thus calling it an insult. I explained how it's not and now you agree it's not. Kind of makes it seems like you've gotten so incensed that you're not really taking the time to make consistent posts.
As far as attacking opinions, you've attacked the POSTERS for disagreeing with you. Not their opinion, but the poster. Not just me. Every poster who's disagreed. You've done a lot more than attack premises (which incidentally, since you've pointed out I'm not a mod, is only an opinion).
This isn't a spat. This is you blatantly saying that if another poster other than CG had posted this thread it would have been modded (mod bias by definition) and then getting pissed and abusive when people weighed on your question, your assumptions and your comments.
Your goal whether it be to get a question answered or to just bitch about how the mods do their business is not aided nor lent credibility by your behavior. That's not an opinon. That's a fact.

Enough. Here's your clarification.
We're very much in favor of players policing players. Pointing out the rules and precedents in these forums is a form of courteous behavior. We welcome input in Moderation threads too, when the original post isn't "mods only", which this one wasn't.
As for the spammy nature of this thread, we don't care. It's not interfering with our ability to handle this weekend's caseload. It's not causing problems in other forums. As judgment calls go, this one is pretty simple and obvious. It's not fluffles. It's not image spam. It's not somebody blogging their personal life to the exclusion of discussion. Apart from your pickiness, it's mostly just a bit of fun at the partial expense of some of the mods, and we're perfectly content to be the butt of mild jokes like this one.

Also...are those Vienna saucages even edible?

I have to say for a frequent traveller who has had to make a meal out of a gas station mini-mart on many a late-night trip, yes, they are edible. If you're starving these things are like little bits of heaven. If you're not, well, I can't describe them without swearing.

mmmm...actually I have a great sense of humour. You can ask the posters who have met me in real life at the NSG meet in London.
No..I am an utter bastard as a mod and there is no way I would do it again.
CG - its a question regarding if this is an appropriate forum for such threads/posts given that people have been warned/had threads closed.
Its nothing to do with you personally (in fact I don't think I have ever interacted with you before).
If you do/did then I apologise but it really is nothing to do with you personally.

As for the participants of this thread, or any other player with insight into a moderation question, they are welcome to post where it's permissible ... just as they always have been.
Ok thanks. So let me get this right to avoid future confusion....
Its ok to spam moderation under certain circumstances...they being dependent on how much work you folks have, that there is no image spam (what difference is there between image and text spam in this case?), blogging, or fluffles (which I admit to still being rather confused about...but hey...I'm old!)....is that what you are saying?
Seriously?
So...given there is no indication of your work load as far as I am aware its really a pot luck kind of thing?
And before you or anyone else gets their knickers in a twist again please note I am only asking questions...I was not making accusations or looking at a way to get one over on the Mods. I am concerned in grokking the rules so I do not break them.
Surely that has to be fair enough?
Regarding the policing of players by players - I never had an issue with that...I do however have an issue when a player policing another player is unable to grasp the basics of the issue. Hence my request for Mod input. After all you folks are the dealers out of...errr....justice....not players. Is that really such a huge crime to warrant nearly a page and half of crap?
My pickiness - sorry but that is unjustified. I never said it was a bad thing to have fun with the Mods, I only wondered if moderation was the correct forum. In fact I think it would be great to be able to have more interaction with Mods...for laughs and giggles to discussing issues.
Regarding my comment about if another poster had started this thread and it getting locked was not an accusation of Mod bias. I don't think I have ever seen bias from mods here. If there was I would not be posting here. I was wondering why, if others had been warned about spamming moderation, why the thread was still alive.

Well, I could respond to the earlier childishness by stick-in-the-mud over there, but seeing as it's already been handily well ... handled by someone with authority, and it really isn't worth getting further into it, though he seems dead-set on continuing to dig ... meh. *grins*
I still stand firmly on the cheddarwurst front. Vienna sausages? Hot dogs? Simply cannot compare to the delicious flavour of good sausage with the cheesey goodness of cheddar roasted proper over a grill or campfire. ^_^
BBQ sauce only, please. Mustard is just plain nasty, and ketchup has no place mucking up the already tasty ensemble.
STILL ... I can attest to the sense of humor on behalf of several Moderators. Surely this travesty cannot be allowed to continue. Authority figures, even unpaid volunteer ones, need to be ISLANDS OF STONE in the sea of frippery and chaos that are the forums. Beatings with the Pillow of Punishment will commence until such behaviour has been remedied. (Yes, that means you Hack, and Kat, and even Fris. I know where to find you. Muahaha. *brandishes pillow*)

Ah, it is good to see someone understands the importance of keeping the mods humorless. How have you been, Lady Nathi?
I'm saying that Ard chick needs to knock it off. Not only are mods to be humorless, but moderation must be as well, so she's doubly-guilty. You've accepted the position, now leave your old and crooked ways behind, Ard.

The following is only my assessment of the situation, and has absolutely no authority behind it. I claim no special understanding of the Mods (and I still haven't gotten my magical powers!).
Ok thanks. So let me get this right to avoid future confusion....
Its ok to spam moderation under certain circumstances...they being dependent on how much work you folks have,
I would guess that that has more to do with the activity of the Mods in the thread than with the fact that they consider it acceptable.
that there is no image spam (what difference is there between image and text spam in this case?),
For one thing, images take longer to load, especially for people with slow internet connections.
blogging, or fluffles (which I admit to still being rather confused about...but hey...I'm old!)
[snip]
So...given there is no indication of your work load as far as I am aware its really a pot luck kind of thing?
If the Moderation forum is busy and has many active threads, posting a joke thread would probably be a bad plan. If there are only a few threads that have seen activity in the past couple days, throwing in a bit of fun seems more likely to be allowed. After all, it's not like it will be bumping more important topics off the first page.
And before you or anyone else gets their knickers in a twist again please note I am only asking questions...I was not making accusations or looking at a way to get one over on the Mods. I am concerned in grokking the rules so I do not break them.
Surely that has to be fair enough?
.... Yeah, this certainly looks like a simple, innocent question:
....is that what you are saying?
Seriously?
Regarding the policing of players by players - I never had an issue with that...I do however have an issue when a player policing another player is unable to grasp the basics of the issue. Hence my request for Mod input. After all you folks are the dealers out of...errr....justice....not players. Is that really such a huge crime to warrant nearly a page and half of crap?
My pickiness - sorry but that is unjustified. I never said it was a bad thing to have fun with the Mods, I only wondered if moderation was the correct forum.
Sure, as long as it doesn't get in the way of official business. Seems like it's related to Moderation to me; where would you rather have it put?
In fact I think it would be great to be able to have more interaction with Mods...for laughs and giggles to discussing issues.
On this I agree with you completely. Sadly our honored Mods' duties generally keep them too busy to spend much time chatting...
Regarding my comment about if another poster had started this thread and it getting locked was not an accusation of Mod bias. I don't think I have ever seen bias from mods here. If there was I would not be posting here. I was wondering why, if others had been warned about spamming moderation, why the thread was still alive.
Well, there are different sorts of spam, and I expect it depends partly on how busy the Mod forum is. I can't say for certain, of course, not being a Mod.
Now, on the actual topic: but humor among the NS Moderators has established historical precedent!
