Clearification

I posted a link to the Westboro Baptist Church...I didnt believe it was real.
I had read it mentioned in a thread and so I linked to it because i goolged and really wasnt sure it wasnt a spoof.

I was quickly informed to delete the link(which I did) before the Mods delivered a horrible pestilence upon my lands.

...

I can not deny the utter lunacy of the site, but since when have you guys ever punished for linking a website that wasnt porn?
Over the going on 4 years I have been here i have seen links to NAMBLA all the way to Stormfront...

Can I please get some clearification on this policy and a list of banned sites for linking...Because if the criterea is that it be offensive...well, we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Where did all this happen (link me), and who advised you to delete the link? I'm not aware of restrictions to that site, apart from the fact that it's mostly pointless spam.

I understand that direct links to Fred Phelps' sites, which are usually of the mold of "www.godhates(insertgroupornationhere).com" are illegal. And while I started the discussion of Phelps' plans to picket the Virginia Tech memorials, I was aware of the rules and didn't post a direct link. (The article I posted a link to had a link in it, but I didn't think that was illegal and I figured it was better than getting busted for spam/trolling/plagiarism.)

The posts that have links to Phelps' "work":

Both in that thread. The less we link to that jerkbag's site, the better.

Worthy of reposting why I can't view this from the office:The URL: <snip> is blocked for the following reason:

Access denied by WebWasher DynaBLocator content category. The requested URL belongs to the following category: Hate and Discrimination.

The less we link to that jerkbag's site, the better.
Agreed, but that doesn't make it against NationStates rules.

I'll defer this decision to another mod who might have access to the site to make a rational determination.

(Incidentally, my initial read was that this was Landover Baptist Church, a horse of an entirely different color.)

I understand that direct links to Fred Phelps' sites, which are usually of the mold of "www.godhates(insertgroupornationhere).com" are illegal. That's what I was told when I posted a link a few months ago. Not by a mod, though, by other posters. Although I seem to remember that they actually linked me to a pertinent moderation post or thread.

Linky to my particular question:
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=524459&page=2

Go down the page and you will see my post, then the warning, then it is mentioned again.

No bear in mind I am not suggesting that anyone gave an "Official" warning rather I took it to be a friendly "Heads up".

I am simply asking for clearity... because I have only posted a link once with a malicious intent and it wasnt the link that me banned it was the intent.

I get the impression by your statements Fris, that indeed it is the intent and not the content(aside from porn) that is what would be at issue.

The site is godhatesamerica dot com. Typing that out is not necessarily against site rules. Anyone who can use Google can find the link by searching of Fred Phelps, so it's not like it's a big secret.

We recognize that this is the internet, and that you can access information quite easily. However, on this site, we don't want you to post clickable links to malicious sites, so don't do that.

If you were posting a discussion of disgusting things, it would (probably) be acceptable to post, "If there's one thing I can't stand ... well, Google 'furry porn' and you'll see." If he'd posted a link instead, we'd have to delete him. It's not so much what you say, it's how you say it.

Actually the link I found was godhatesfags dot com but the difference is the same I suppose, I really dont plan on checking.

Basically in the context i had posted the link I would not have had an issue because I made it perrfectly clear I wasnt even sure it was a real site and to that end was completely clueless to any rule potential breakage.

Really, I imagine I will be fine.

As I said I had another nation banned, and that was for my intention...or as you put "how I said it", so cool.

I believe I am clear on this issue.
