It seems like however nice or civil I am towards the FAQ Page mods, they are impatient and nasty towards me almost any time I have a request. They take pride in humiliating me, and threaten to delete me. They shove me aside like I'm nothing at all. I would like to hear about your experiences, whether good or bad. I'm sure Frisbeeteria will have something to say here because I know that there's usually some sort of controversy between him and me.

I doubt your thread will fare too well here, this isn't really the place for it, that would be the Moderation Forum, I guess.

I don't know your history with the mods nor do I know what the "FAQ page" is, but I do think our mods can be pretty abrasive if something rubs them the wrong way, even if that something is put nicely and politely.

The problem here was an actual game problem. The mods are biased against me because I annoyed them a year ago. I guess a grudge never dies. There is more info, if I can ever dig it up in the Jolt Forum.

It's obvious that you and the player behind ***** have some sort of real-world connection, since you've logged onto the same computer at least once. Be warned that we're not here to sort out your school problems, or to be used as a weapon against your friends. You've consistently wasted our time on multiple trivial tasks, and simply don't seem to care that we're in charge of the GAME, not your life.

We're getting very close to the point of removing your nation for abusing us, so be VERY sure that you are reporting something that is actually against the rules if you file any other reports. If you can't handle that, then perhaps Nationstates isn't for you. Clear?

The mods have to put up with a lot from players on NS, and all for NO PAY I might add. I'm actually amazed that none of them have snapped.

I think their response is a highly justifiable one to someone who's been pestering them constantly... but i can't see that you have or have not since you didn't paste your request....

Take it easy on the insults. And the mods are under no obligation to do anything you ask, unless they see that game rules have been broken. If they don't see rules being broken they won't do anything.

Let me give you some advice The Asp Meridian, if you want the mods to reply to you in a manner that is both polite and respectful, then you need to start by showing them respect.

I recently had a problem, or rather an issue I wanted resolved, and if you're persistent, as long as you're polite and you say why you're right, without being a smarmy jackass. It's one thing to send them multiple messages if you think that they might have deleted it by mistake, which is what I thought, since they had threatened to overlook any more moderator requests since I had become known to submit requests about every three months to have my two puppets revived.

So, I sent a second reply because I didn't get a reply after the first reply back I had got, saying they could not resolve my issues because the forums had been down.

When they got back to me, I got the response I wanted, and not because I was deserving of it completely, but because I wrote in a coherent manner, and I showed that I wanted to deal with them in a diplomatic manner.

The mods respond very nicely when you're not a tool with your foot requiring surgical removal from your mouth.

If I had been a jackass, I'd be more than forumbanned right now.

Further, if it's a real world problem, the mods more than have a right to tell you to flake off and solve it yourself. They aren't your parents who can go beat up the other brat's parents.

I will send you the information personally. I believe part of this bias was because of time about a year or two ago, but I'm not sure if the mods know if I'm that nation anymore. If not, well, I guess it's just that the mods are impatient with everyone.

Ask the other mods if they know who I am. No connection scans yet, please, because that would ruin the point of my asking. If they know who I was, then that is probably the reason of this hostile bias towards me.

Of course, my innapropriate conduct was over a year ago. I hope they don't dwell on these things for that long.

For some reason, the only connection he picked up was the one from my friends computer, even though I had connected to my own later. The poop nation was my friend's little brother joking around. This is pretty humiliating, considering that I don't want to announce personal details on a public forum. Therefore I kept my mouth shut and didn't retaliate.

Part 2- New Beginnings

And so, I started a new nation and a new region. I let the other one crumble to dust. I got a good amount of my friends to play the game with me. I was having a pretty average, normal NationState life. Until he came...


Before I continue, I would like to let you know that i actually did inform one of the moderators that I was, well, who I was. I'm not sure if he broadcasted this to the others, but an uncomfortable feeling seemed to be between me and the moderators from then on.

I invited a kid who lived down the street to play. He sucked up to me a lot and was a lot younger than me. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of thinking he was at the same maturity level. Next thing I know, he overflows my telegram box with messages like "Get on!" and "Bitch!" and "ass hole". I miss lots of important telegrams. I try to tell him to knock it off several times, but he keeps doing it. Then he starts crapping up the civil HQ.

The first message I sent was answered with an annoyed, inhospitable reply saying that I had not supplied enough information.

I sent them another with what I thought, was plenty of sufficient evidence. By this time, the spam and harassment had gotten very bad. He was moving past bullshit to ethnic and racial insults.


The message I recieved was less than helpful.

You filed two tasks concerning ****, but neither report had any activity with that nation. There are nations in your report that have a peripheral connection to ****, and perhaps are his puppet nations. If you have facts (NOT speculation) concerning the player behind this spamming activity, provide it. If not, report the FACTS behind the rulebreaking, and we'll investigate...

I supplied them with plenty of facts. The facts that the puppets were continuing the same rants that the original had started, the facts that he was abusing me, and the facts that he was spamming the living shit out of me and my region/regionmates.

...It's obvious that you and the player behind *** have some sort of real-world connection, since you've logged onto the same computer at least once...

You hadn't. The regional snapshots you included contained no actions of any kind by the nation you reported. When we say we need evidence, we mean we need specific evidence of who you're reporting, not vague evidence of a nation you think may be linked to the one you're reporting somehow.

For some reason, the only connection he picked up was the one from my friends computer, even though I had connected to my own later. The poop nation was my friend's little brother joking around. This is pretty humiliating, considering that I don't want to announce personal details on a public forum. Therefore I kept my mouth shut and didn't retaliate.

We certainly don't keep, as you seem to suggest, some master list of players to have some kind of childish vendetta against. Read the posts in this thread from your fellow players in response to the aggression and obfuscation that you handed them and consider why, perhaps you have found your dealings with others to be so unsatisfactory.

Considering how difficult it's been to get you to provide any of the details for this grievance, I can understand why more information may have been requested. If for instance you tell us someone is spamming you with abusive messages but there are none in your telegram box, we're left with nothing to check on. If you tell us someone's spammed nastiness on an RMB but don't tell us which one to look at, and don't click the tickbox that sends us the internal snapshot, and we don't see your message until hours later, the information may well be gone. Or perhaps the snapshots we see doesn't show us any rulebreaking. If you've done this several times before, we might even tell you to please give us evidence when you're making a complaint... as I myself have had to in this thread.

This is an appropriate response when we don't have enough information from the complainant to actually act on. And we can't fight your IRL battles for you, and don't want to play mediator between family members or friends as we've told PLENTY of other people. If you have a personal problem with someone outside of Nationstates, then you need to take care of it outside of Nationstates.

Well, basically, summing up his point, (GMC's) you didn't provide enough information, used moderation as a weapon, and solved the problem on your own.

The politeness and willingness to help (assuming the provision of evidence) that you've had from the moderators frankly surprises me; to my mind they'd have been justified in closing this thread and telling you to quit whining some time ago, instead they've let you have your say."

I'm not going to address any of the previous comments, as they have been adequately rebutted by other mods and players. I stand firnly behind every thing that's been attributed to me, as I can't be bothered to see if they were taken out of context. Doesn't really matter, as I barely remember the cases or comments. Sounds like me, though.

What I'm going to address is your methodology, TAM. If you are who I think you are, you've been the champion of vague assertions and insufficient evidence in your regular IRC visits. Despite the fact that our use of that channel makes it entirely secure, and your conversations are exclusively between yourself and whatever mods are monitoring the channel, you have consistently and repeatedly refused to provide any evidence to us there.

... and so on. It usually 20-30 minutes before we get that most basic of information, the nation name that's having a problem.

For the next 20-30 minutes, a stream-of-consciousness flow of vague insinuations, threats to unnamed players and nations, accusations of impersonation, activity on off-site forums and over MSN, and so on. During this time, the other mods and I get steadily more insistent that you provide actual details, which are NEVER forthcoming.

We've got thousands of players to assist, and on at least three recent occasions you've consumed an hour of my time without ever saying anything.

In RL, I'm an IT troubleshooter, and my department bills me out at $300/hour. If you were the client in question, my advice to your manager would be to find you a post where you didn't interact with consultants like me, and then hand him a bill for $900. I'd then ask him if there was someone else who could actually describe the problem, so I could do what I get paid to do.

Do I hold a grudge? No. Do I keep up with people I know are timewasters, and refuse to interact with them when I know nothing will come of it? You better believe I do. I have better things to do than that, even if it's just restoring nations for some of the thousands of other players we support.

I spend no more than a minute on simple tasks, and rarely over 10-20 minutes on complicated tasks, and 95% of my client base seems to be entirely happy with the results. The remaining 5% is mostly rulebreakers who can't seem to grasp the idea that this site has rules, so I'm not bothered by their hatred. I use a simple a direct style to resolve those issues, and it sometimes comes across as blunt or abrasive. Being compared to a police dog bothers me not at all. In fact, I'm rather fond of the analogy, now that it's been brought up.

Do I hate you? No. I barely know you, and I wasn't aware that your year-old issues had anything to do with your current issues, or that you were even the same player. I do know that I won't engage you in conversation in #themodcave any more. It's an utter waste of my time, and probably yours as well.

Will I waste anymore time on this? Not a chance.

And now that the matter has been thoroughly explained both by your fellow players whom you invited to witness this little showdown and whom you've abused since you realized they do not agree with you, and by three moderators who have had to put up with quite a bit of namecalling and abuse, this would be the appropriate time to regroup, consider what you've been told, and consider that a new approach would be helpful in your dealings with others.
