My gloating thread...

I posted a thread and used teh word "gloating." I didn't want a flamebait thread, I just wanted a thread where we could celebrate. I went in and edited it to take the offending phrases out of the post, but I can't change the title. Is there a way that you can just change the thread title name to celebration or something rather than locking it? We do deserve to have a thread where we can high-five each other. I'm sure you realize how important this has been to all of us Americans. :)

Dude, you knew there was a ban on gloating, yet you purposely created a "gloating" (your word in the title) thread. Trying to pull a CYA at this point? Gimme a break...

Ummm...even if you weren't really gloating, the thread is full of some really ugly stuff.

Thought the mods should know what's going on. Next time, when you get the memo about it, try reading it.

Actually, I didn't.

You are lucky they didn't ban you for starting a thread when there was a freaking sticky.

No one sent me a memo and there is nothing more ugly in that thread than in any other thread in that room.

It's called "reading the stickies".

It's called "reading the stickies".

Doesn't change the fact that in terms of content that thread was light to typical on the scale of contention in that room. It was actually light in comparison to your posts. You attack people regularily with more ferocity than was exhibited in any post in that thread and the fact that I agree with you much of the time doesn't change that. :)

Also doesn't change the fact that you started a thread for the express purpose of gloating. That's against the rules, Officer. Frisbeeteria has acted in this regard.

Gloating is flamebaiting. Now, if you've "seen worse" in other gloating threads, feel free to point them out so we know to lock them, too.

I'll leave it alone after this, but did you actually read that thread? Not one single personal attack, no flaming at all, not even an angry post. The most contentious exchange in that thread was:

First, this is just average carnage. At the six year point, a President's party loses 29 seats in the House on average. Don't remember the Senate, but it looks like mostly Conservative Democrats are being elected.

Second, do you really expect a guy like Rumsfeld to go out in such a way that he would be regarded as a failure? No ... way. He's going to hang on until he's either vindicated or the end of the current Administration.

I'd say enjoy your victory, but unless you're an editor or own a couple media outlets, it isn't really your victory.

Yes it is. The Dems won a huge majority in teh House and will control the Senate as well. As for conservative Democrats, that's fine because I'm largely a conservative. I just want checks on this admin's power because they're so stupid. And Rumsfeld? If the majority had been slim, maybe. If Bush doesn't dump him, though, or he doesn't step down the House is going to pull a dump truck up on teh Whitehouse lawn and start shoveling subpeonas in through the front door. He's toast. Thank God because he's destroying our country.

Hell, one guy on the right even posted this:

A huge and heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to the winning party!

The people have spoken, and unlike those wacky leftists who complain about losing when they lose, this far FAR rightist has heard the decision of the people and applauds it with gusto.

Now we get to watch both parties move further to the right.

It really is too bad I couldn't have voted FOR Harold Ford, whom I like immensely,.. but the fact that he was associated with (gasp) Democrats, and that I'm not a voter in his state, precluded my vote for him.

May the Republicans get their heads on straight and stick to their REAL principles.

May the Democrats get their heads on straight and learn to GET some principles.

May the people of America win, as they always do, through this lovely process we call "politics".

Once again,.. Congratulations to the marvelous winners!

To which I responded:

Accepted in the spirit it was given!

If you think that was even remotely in the range of the usual contention that exists in that room I don't know if we're reading the same forum. Don't get me wrong, I like it like that, but this thread was tame. All you had to do was remove the word "gloat" from the title and I don't see the problem. That's just me, but hey. Sorry I don't read all the stickes, but the rules of forums like this are all the same and are mostly intuitive as testified to by the fact that I have had one thread locked before today out of the hundreds I've posted and over 4,000 posts I've contributed. I just question the judgement on this one. This was a harmless congratulatory thread amongst a lot of people who were very heavily emotionally invested in a very important election and the threads at the top are just mechanical vote counting threads. BTW - There are far more harsh exchanges in those threads as well except that they are off topic.

But, Ce La Vie or however you spell it.

No one earned a warning for this thread. There were no negative implications or associations as a result of this thread. The thread was simply closed with a pointer to the sticky, which was EXPRESSLY created for the purpose, with a SPECIFIC disclaimer about gloating.

This decision was made in advance by half-a-dozen mods, based on experience from the 2004 elections, and will not be overturned. Now how about just using the stickies like we politely asked, ok?
