Heading it off at the pass
I'm sure you guys have already thought of this, but in case you haven't, could we please have a repeat of the no gloating rule (I think it was a stickie) from the 2004 US election back in General?
I'm sure no matter who wins, it's going to cause lots of supporters to gloat at the losing party and will set off some more flame wars.
Thanks!

Had been thinking of doing something like this anyway. Thanks for the reminder.
heh. I called the whole election thing like a month ago. Go me.
Actually I have a question. When you say "no gloating", does that mean I couldn't post something like "Yay, 'x' party won the senate seat in my state"? Or are you wanting to prohibit just the rubbing it in part, such as saying "OH YAHHHH!!!! DA DEMS BEAT T3H GOP!!!!!1! Take that!"?

You're always welcome to post discussion topics about the election, and you can be specific to specific races or more general about the overall effect it has on the USA. Celebration threads are fine in small numbers, but "gloat spam" will be more overt and obvious. We can't lay a set standard down in advance, but we'll know it when we see it.
... would a stickied "Election Results" thread be in order. to prevent an onslaught of copy threads and to have one thread where the mods can keep an eye on things?

I was actually going to ask about that as well. It'd help keep General from being flooded tonight.

This (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=506279) looks to me like a gloating thread, especially since there was already a thread in place and stickied on the House elections that Fris created.

Might wanna hit this one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=506305), too. A lot of it is just "nanny-nanny-boo-boo" shite.

I'm seeing the condescending, but not the gloating.

Alrighty then, I suppose I'll just have to keep that in mind if Harper wins the next general election in Canada... ;)
