Everything seems to be dumped into the General forum, & it seems to create a shitload of havoc.

On a couple board I frequent, there is a specified Flameboard forum, where powederkeg topics dealing with religion, politics, & the like can be posted & allowed to degenerate in a safe, controlled environment. (although none of them degeneate like I've seen here).

I'd like to propose a similar subforum here at NS. This would allow the General subforum to continue to be used as a way for the many users to get to know each other better & still allow those who would prefer to sally forth into the morass that laughably passes itself off as "debate" here to continue to do so without any impingement upon the other.

I don't know if something like this has been proposed before because...well, I'm too lazy to go sifting through the search archive & I admit that. But if it's feasible, I believe that it would be endorsed by many.

The General forum is designed for debate, not for people to get to know one another. It's a pleasant side effect to the debate and sometimes the sole goal of people, but there's pretty much not ever going to be a NS "get to know people" forum. People use messengers and chat programs to get to know each other better.

Well, then. In that case, it does its job quite well, doesn't it?

I don't know if something like this has been proposed beforeAbout once every other month since December of 2002.

And since flaming is prohibited, we are not starting a flameboard forum.
