DoS?
I don't usually go for this kind of guess work, but I think we can be relatively confident this is our DoS friend back again.

I was going to respond to something in the MJF/Rush thread and *POOF* it was gone when I refreshed.

Is there any reason why he's able to keep creating these nations? I thought that you had Modly tools that blocked DoS people? (This is just curiousity, not a criticism)

We have modly tools that block IP-banned people, but IP addresses are not the be-all and end-all of the internet. There are a variety of technical reasons why some players cannot be banned, thus the sobriquet "Delete-on-Sight". If they were bannable, we'd never see them; so it would be a rather silly name to use, eh what?
Was I actually right on Claptrap? I was much less sure on the second one than the first one I put up.

Well, I knew there would be a reason why it was called that, but I'm afraid my technical knowledge of networks and the internet is somewhat limited. I just turn it on and hope it works. :p

I hate to say it, since it's my thread and all, but it may be best for all our collective sanity if we locked the thread in question. I say that because the DoS idiot seems to put all his/her/its energy into that thread. I am assuming that the idiocy will not spread to other threads and infect those. If I am wrong, slap me with a rubber chicken. If I am right, it may be time to just end that thread.

Odd that I knew it. Honestly, I just had a feeling. I don't know him very well. I would have felt pretty silly if I was wrong so I almost didn't mention it. My jedi powers must be strong today. Or... perhaps it was the names.

Aren't there ways for people to hack into NS to get around the preperations mods take to get these guys off jolt? Maybe this guy's a hacker and has too much time on his hands...

I'm no expert, but of what I do know I'm pretty sure it generally doesn't work that way. This is more of a result of the fact that, all things considered, computing technology is geared towards greater freedom and privacy rather than Big Brother security than of some sort of 1337 h4><z0r hacking our Gibsons.
Oh, and Swordfish is a horrible movie. Do not base any sort of COMPSEC knowledge off of it.

Maybe this guy's a hacker and has too much time on his hands...Since ...There are a variety of technical reasons why some players cannot be banned...... is it possible that, instead of doing some clever hacking ... perhaps these unblockable players might simply go out and ...

I would assume that there are some computer sites that you wouldn't want to ban since they are public or associated to a school of some sort.

I sometimes miss the obvious. I just simply fail to see the logic, or use for that matter, in creating multiple nations to use NS/jolt if they constantly get baned and refuse to change their responses adequate to the rules in general (as in this case), or to change their RP style in II. I mean, it's just not logical.

How would you react to someone who kept climbing over your fence to toss paintbombs on your house? Would you put up a taller fence? Place landmines in the yard (might be hard on the kids and the dog). Get a shotgun and wait on the back porch for the bastard?
I had my shotgun out today. He doesn't seem to care about the electric fence. He's not running on logic, sense, or anything other people would consider manners. He just wants to throw his idiocy bombs onto our site, and doesn't care whether he survives the experience.
Yeah, it's incredibly stupid. But oddly enough, that's why we have moderators.

Interesting analogy. And I'm glad to have you guys here, even if we(the non-mod guys) end up slightly annoying you guys (including myself). I'd have gone insane if we didn't have mods. I sometimes wonder how you guys cope with these things.

No, it wouldn't. I fail to see how publicizing players who have behaved so badly as to warrant permanent removal from this site is something that people want to pursue.
Furthermore, we've got tools that let us track most of them. Only the fact that our automated systems were also taken down by the failure of the Getting Help system allowed this player to hang around as long as he did. Incidently, those tools are now working, and we're killing his new puppets before he can make his presence known here at all.
If you continue with your morbid fascination with rulebreakers, you can find an unofficial list in NSwiki's Hall of Ex-Nations (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Hall_of_Ex-Nations). That is as good as you're going to get.
Can we drop this now?
I may not get an answer to this question either, but... Let's say I was informed that I was unwelcome on this site and told in no uncertain terms that I was no longer welcome on this private site. Is there a potential for legal repurcussions for, say, choosing to create multiple nations and harrassing the mods?
