So, You Stopped Reading General?

I cant help but wonder why the notorious and notoriously unpunished troll who has been putting graffiti in quite a few General threads for quite a while hasn't been dealt with.

Is it because you stopped reading general?

NationStates forums: 175,108 threads with 5,357,801 posts.

"The world contains 103,776 nations in 13,328 regions." Best guess is that 2,000 to 3,000 are currently active on the forums.

Moderation Staff: about a dozen, perhaps four of whom are active on the forums on a daily basis.

Your smug insinuation that we're not doing our job annoys me. I don't read General, and I don't act on vague suggestions that somebody is doing something wrong. Provide links, or don't bother.

Pretending to be a "mainstream democrat" and proposing all sorts of inane things?

Then pretending to be a christian fundamentalist and saying all sorts of inane and condescending things?

This is in my opinion obviously a troll - a made-up persona intended to caricature and get under people's skin.

Lets let the mods read over all of the evidence and let them decide, shall we?

I mean, it just seems to me that he's really bad at argument. He claims to be "really smart" in one of his posts, but precedes to make sweeping statements with little to no evidence sprinkled with a bit of poor-taste ad hom arguments. I'm not sure that's actionable, but I am sure that many of us will make fun of the silly logic or put on our ignore hats.

You see, in trolling, he wants us to poke holes in his argument. That's how it works. I hyperbolize my opponent by creating a puppet and pretending to agree with him but exaggerating his position. I let everyone else make my arguments for me by attacking my exaggerated position. It's a particularly elaborate form of strawman.

1. Since he's played both sides, and it currently looks like has taken the side he agrees with, that analysis doesn't make very much sense.

2. Making bad arguments does not a troll make. He's a troll if he's intentionally hurtful with his hyperbole. Just taking a very radical, but very silly, perspective, doesn't seem actionable to me.

But he doesn't agree with the side he's 'on'. He slips up all the time and let's his true colors fly. He's pretending to be an atheist democrat while hyperbolizing what one is and at the same time accidentally letting it slip time and again that he doesn't actually believe what he's pretending to believe.

It is intentionally hurtful. It doesn't matter what you think. The mods will deal with it and they certainly know the definition of a troll. You're not allowed to come on this site pretending to hold beliefs just to make the people who hold those beliefs look silly. This guy is particularly obvious.

His behaviour is rude and stupid, but it is not exactly trolling. Using 'stupid' as an insult is hardly serious enough to class as flaming. He does need to come off the sugar high, or whatever place he must be to generate so many nonsensical viewpoints, but this sort of behaviour would be actionable only if it was ruining someone's thread. Mere incoherence is not in itself an offence.

Pardon? It's not just about incoherence. I thought pretending to hold a view you don't hold in order to make those that do hold that view look absurd is trolling. I mean, that is why HerPower and JesusSaves no longer exist in our world. Did the definition of trolling for this site change?

Nothing changed. The thing is, the views expressed are so ritalined, they appear to me to be consistent. I think the blame lies not with a malign intelligence on the part of the troll, but a complete lack of it. I have seen exactly that sort of thought train bouncing in friends who spent years on rave drugs or smoking weed all day, every day.

For your convenience:

Nervun, the temple prostitutes thing is just made up by the very small branch of liberal Christians (i.e. Unitarians, Episcopalians, etc.) that doesn't like what Scripture says. But I appreciate your POV. I'll pray for you.

...

Battle Hymn of the Republican violates the Seperation of Church and State, so you can't pick that one.

Sorry, I wish we could allow it but the Constitution blocks it. I realize it might have been used at the time, but the people were stupid then, nowadays it can't be taught in public schools because of the 1st amendment.

...

I would not be opposed to the leaders of the nation having private jets or other lead activists, like I am. I'M FIGHTING FOR EDUCATION HEALTHCARE AND CHILDCARE FOR ALL, so I am due special consideration. Considering all you do is work for 10 hours a day for yourself and your family, you don't deserve an exemption.

...

I support everyone having the exact same treatment. I AM FOR EQUALITY like what was intended by the Founders. THAT ALL MEN (AND WYMIN) ARE EQUAL.
...

I originally liked the amendment, but my school teachers scared me because they reminded me of the separation of church and state and because this is exactly what hitler did in germany. While my parents like the republicans, and I like them when I first hear their proposals, after being educated in school I now realize just how evil the republicans really are. I'm glad the Founders established the ACLU to make sure that the constitution isn't repealed.

...

Then please explain why their isn't equal distribution of money across the world? Basically, from what I learned in class, the third world exists because of American greed, so how will letting the greediest of Americans seceed help this matter? After our teacher reviewed the facts, my class was determined what we really need is the United Nations to start taxing the rich all across the world to make sure that even the poor have healthcare, childcare, and reproductive freedom.

...

Because healthcare, childcare, and reproductive freedom are rights, not priveleges, and property is a privelege granted by the government, not a right.

...

This would prevent the government from taxing in order to provide to needy citizens unless they had the consent of the propertyowner. What kind of society would we be if the government had to ask people to help the poor.

THERE IS NO RIGHT TO PROPERTY, and never has been one. Anyone who says there is I find to be so greedy and mean.

In order to use government to stop people from being mean and greedy, I urge a vote for Jon Tester in Montana, Jim Webb in Virginia, and Bob Casey in Pennsylvania.

...

I'm not sarcastic, but I'm basically combining the majority sentiment of people on the Forum in response to conservatives.

Now I ask you: Why do conservatives hate the ACLU when it was established by the Founders to protect the Bill of Rights?
