Here we go again! Somalia now has extremist Moslem ruler. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11240613&postcount=1)

Eutrusca, the thread starter decided that he didn't want to use the correct term, even though in the article that he posted contained the correct term. He used "Moslem" instead of Muslim. This is considered racially offensive.

The word Muslim is an Arabic agent noun formed from the causative (Form IV) of the tri-consonantal root S-L-M سلم (be at peace), which is أَسْلَمَ meaning "to submit" or "to surrender". The plural form is "Muslimeen" (مسلمين) in Arabic and "Muslims" in English. The word Islam is the corresponding abstract noun, meaning "submission [to God]." "Moslem", an old-fashioned transliteration generally avoided at present, approximates the Persian pronunciation of the word; "Musulman" (with various spellings) is based on the corresponding Urdu form.
Are you sure its offensive?

No, the spelling Eutrusca used in the thread title is offensive.

It is no longer in use and it is considered as such.

This information I had received from my Muslim friends.

I'd be inclined to let the old bugger have his way, as I doubt he believed it offensive, but if you really want it changed then you should just ask him reasonably.

A quick google search reveals this site made and operated by a muslim/moslem group using the "moslem" spelling: http://www.oz.net/~msarram/ I've seen "Moslem" used many times but never offensively. Maybe your friends are having you on, or maybe they're misinformed themselves. I also dont see how any descriptive word for islam could be considered "racially offensive" as Islam is not a race...

I've always thought Moslem is just an older version of the spelling.
Not bad

I didnt know it was offensive. I will try not to use the word moslem in any future post. If I used it before it was not meant to be offensive.

The fact that Eutrusca was explained this in the thread and that his response was (and I quote): "Fine. sue me. :p " indicate he wouldn't change it if it was not intended as offensive indicate something of his character just like his other posts in his thread:

it seems good old Eutrusca is once again riding the blurred line between flame-baiting and speaking his mind.

Well,I'm not sure how a simple difference of vowels would make it offensive.Mabye if he had called him a 'Mohammedean',I'd see where you'd be coming from.

Otherwise,I don't see anything offensive within the title.

I was considering making a new thread for this but since it's related to the subject matter i'll post here.

I'd like the mods opinion on this post: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11240692&postcount=5

to me this comes across as a mix of flamebaiting Eut and at the same time Threatening him with moderation action which the OSRS lists as using mods as a weapon.

For pete's sake: you've determined amongst yourselves that it is not offensive; let it go.
