Are we going to have new threads for every match? Is this really something General needs to devote half the front page to? I understand that this is a major sporting event, but it has little to do with this game.
I'd rather see one massive World Cup thread than have 12 topics on upcoming, current, and just past matches on the front page every day for a month. Football/soccer fans, tell me why or why not.

I think one for each match is reasonable, because we're talking about different players, teams, strategies, scores, etc. It's almost impossible to keep track of the different games in one mega thread.
It will taper off soon anyway, once we reach the knockout stages. There will be fewer games.

Boonytopia pretty much hit the nail on the head. Also, there are only 3 matches a day at the moment, and most of the threads that have been made slip away about 2 hours after the relevant match has finished. Right now there are six World Cup match related threads that have been posted in during the last 24 hours, and three of these are on the first page. It's hardly overkill.
