America Bashing

You'd need one of those medieval catapaults ...

You need to be pretty strong to be able to even lift the average american dude. I wouldn't want to try to throw them anywhere.

I was thinking of a mass driver in space. We shuttle them there and eject them into deep space. But then the drifting fatties would just get us into a war with an unknown, but strong, alien empire...over oil.

That being the point. You can't throw lard-asses very far, and you can thus not trust them very much at all.

We don't hate Americans per se but their staggering arrogance & monumental ignorance really irritate us besides we you very easy to wind up.

The following posts are all generalizations in reference to Americans being fat. It started when Fass said, "Not to be trusted further than you can throw them," in reference to Americans. Then they all went on a streak about how Americans are fat. I know this is fairly mild in terms of flaming, but if I were to make posts about Europeans all being lazy, witless, and hairy, all in jest of course, I'm sure I'd get tagged for flaming.

If memory serves, I do not believe that the mods have regarded criticism of groups flaming.

"America bashing" does not violate the rules.

IMHO, that is very blatant trolling, and thus against the rules.

How can stating a simple truth be "bashing?"
(Please note that I am an American.)

Overweight and Obesity: Obesity Trends: U.S. Obesity Trends 1985–2004 (http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/trend/maps/)

Don't get too smug you in Europe, I've also googled Obesity in Europe - European Public Health Aliance (http://www.epha.org/a/673). Here is a quote from one of the documents on the web page.

Obesity is rising at an alarming rate throughout Europe. It forms a pan-
European epidemic that presents a major barrier to the prevention of chronic
non-communicable diseases. At least 135 million EU citizens are affected
and perhaps another 70 million in those countries seeking to join. In many
countries now significantly more than half the adult population is overweight
and up to 30% of adults are clinically obese. The prevalence among children
is rising significantly with as many as one in four affected in some regions.

This is not a matter of "stating a simple truth", this is a matter of making series of comments with purpose of ridiculing/offending Americans, and therefore, qualifies as trolling.

Trolling: Posts that are made with the aim of angering people. (like 'ALL JEWS ARE [insert vile comment here]' for example). While Trolls often make these posts strictly in an attempt to provoke negative comment, it is still trolling even if you actually hold those beliefs. Intent is difficult to prove over the internet, so mods will work under their best assumptions.

P.S.

Please note that I am not an American ;)

Actully, they are stating known facts. The US has issues with Obesity, Bush has started wars just for oil, and a large number of Americans are arrogant. Thus I don't see it as trolling at all.

Well, lucky for all of us we have the Moderation forum, and a team of Moderators to lay down what is and what isn't allowed, so that we needn't sit here and platform our own opinions til we're blue in the face like we're free to do in the General forum.

Which this isn't.

Facts, figures, and opinions notwithstanding.

(Besides which, you're missing the point - a large number of HUMANS are arrogant, fat, lazy, despicable, intollerant, ignorant, rude, etc. regardless of what nation, faith, belief set, gender, race they come from. What of it? All's fair in love, war, and what passes for 'debate'?)

Knowing the general forum I find these quotes surprisingly mild.

With apologies to Rudyard Kipling,

General is General and Moderation is Moderation, and never the twain shall meet.

This whole conversation is an insult to anyone with an ounce on intelligence. It's wrong to generalize about ANY group. There's just as much arrogence in every other country, you just don't see it in your own because the culture is different, and consequently the view of what is or isn't arrogent is also different.

I find it rather arrogent that people feel the need to insult another country as a whole, just because of the few idiots that make themselves nuisances. It's the same garbage as presuming all <culture> are <religion>, or that all <religion> are terrorists... of course, both generalization are a load of bunk, just like "Americans are fat" or "<country/group> is arrogent"

If you want to say something like "<person> is arrogent" that's different, that's something that can be proven.

And for the record: I am American, I am 178cm (5'10") tall, I am only 57kg (125lbs). I don't eat any special diet. I don't watch my weight. I eat like a horse. Am I fat? not hardly!

Ah sensible insanity, what an apt name. (The sensible part.. though you may well be insane)
I was out of line with the US= Arrogance statement, BUT, manyyyy Americans I have met see themselves as the pride and joy of Earth.. But meh, im sure its not ALL of you.

I could state "known facts" about Europeans, including but not limited to their arrogance. That could be true and flaming at the same time.

I don't mind the occasional joke about Americans; I've made a few myself. But too many of those really do get old.

BTW, I am an American and I'm heavy enough to have had chairs collapse under me. :( But I'm not arrogant because I really AM better than you Europeans. ;) (sorry, I couldn't resist)

So we can't make blanket statements or stereotypical remarks about browns, blacks, tans, whites, purples, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Spaghetti Monsterians, and so on; but we can based on country of origin now? Swweeeet!

In case my previous post was misunderstood (the following is based upon my observations of modly workings, but may not always be true):

The mods have previously frowned upon discussion simply being carried from other forums into Moderation. If the discussion is to do with a complaint/ruling, that should be fine.
But if it is merely a continuance of the thread discussion (be it General, UN, RP, Gameplay or whatever), it could be classed as spam. And spam is not good, especially in Moderation.
