Gravedigging vs Copy Cat Thread.

I've always considered it a fine line between the two, but an argument about threads keeps coming back to haunt me.

can't remember the topic but I believe it was the number of bashing threads that were out there and I pulled up some (by linking to them) as examples.

his comment was "nice, pulling up threads 5 pages ago" while my response was "check the date, last post was 3 days ago."

so my question. at what point in time does a thread become 'dead'?
would it be the number of pages it gets burried under or the length of time that elapses from the last post. and if so, how long is too long or how many pages are needed for a proper burial?

then there are those that, while looking back, find a thread they want to respond to (perhaps they were on vacation or just lost track of that thread.) and they try to bring it back up to re-establish the conversations/arguments in said thread but that gets rulled as gravedigging. (I think I've only seen one instance where the Mod ruled that it was an honest attempt to revitalize the thread and let it stand.)

if such attempts are considered gravedigging (and thus against the Rules), then can posts of "not this shit again" be considered flame baiting since past threads are dead and any attempt to revitalize them considered gravedigging?

and last question (sorry :p ) if two threads about the same topic but taking on different viewpoints are started simultaniously, is that considered a Copy Cat thread?

All such questions can be answered with two responses - "The One Stop Rules Shop" and "Moderator judgement".

We've been asked to uber-define such things before, and we just won't do that level of definition. Even the OSRS is far too long.

Understood. I was just wondering if there was a "Rule of Thumb" that the mods use.
