Much to my disappointment, the thread "The Right to Bare Really Really Big Arms (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=484475)" has been locked. I know that there were many pun-threads based on the Second Amendment, and that my thread contained several posts of this nature. Therefor, it is understandable that Frisbeeteria assumed that the basis of my thread was a language game.
While 2nd Amendment jokes played a significant role, the thread was also being used to debate serious 2nd amendment topics, such as the extensiveness of the right to weapon ownership, and the use of weapons as a means to keep government in check. In fact, 2nd Amendment puns in this thread would most accurately be described as a sub-plot. Note that, before the thread was locked, only 2 out of the last 30 posts contained 2nd Amendment puns. The fact that we can insert this sort of light-heartedness into controversial political topics is what makes NS General a special forum. Furthermore, this thread, IMHO displayed the ideal use of light-heartedness: as comic relief during what could easily devolve into an overly heated debate.
I understand that the job of moderation is both long and difficult. This means that moderators must make quick judgements, so that, no matter how diligent and fair they are, they cannot possibly be perfect. In consideration of this fact, I think that it is reasonable that, from time to time, a poster might ask the moderators to reconsider what he sees as an error in judgement. Therefor, I politely ask such a reconsideration of the decision to lock this thread.
Thank You.
