I know these are mild but we keep getting him to calm down and knock off the namecalling but a couple of post later he starts right back up. At what point does it become a problem that everyone else is an idiot, retarded, moronic, sheep, a liar, delusional, etc.? I know they're all mild, but it keeps dragging the thread down into namecalling which I was under the impression the rules on flaming were designed to prevent.

When I did this he had 221 posts, 189 in this thread. Of the 189 in the thread he had all of these admittedly mild insults (except for calling two different people rapists). 49 posts containing insults and namecalling, flaming and flamebaiting to some degree, our of 189 posts. Given a portion of posts are dedicated to telling people to leave or to go read other posts, I would say about a third to a half of his total posts included flaming and flamebaiting to some degree. That's pretty significant.

To be fair, Santa Barbara was responding to a post where NY Nordland suggested that someone's house should be broken into to let them know what the 'invasion' of Norway was like and Santa Barbara was simply extending the analogy to show it was ridiculous (I think). Regardless, there is no other person in that thread that dedicated a full quarter of their posts to insulting people like you did. Mods rarely warn for mild insults but when there are that many, their patience generally wears thin (in my experience).

Warnings are given to end the behavior. He didn't ban you from the thread or the forums. He told you to stop insulting people. If people are insulting you, the moderation forum is here so that you may report it. Generally, mild insults are ignored unless they occur a lot. "idiot", "stupid" and "moron" generally goes unnoticed provided it doesn't become a major portion of one's participation.

Cant we answer them in a PG 13 content? And it's really not practical to report all insulting people...You heard Jocabia saying it took 1 hour for him to compile all this. It'd take me 2 hours. I disagree. I should be the one to decide whose insults I care to answer or not. Reporting every insult to moderators isnt practical. Not a realistic solution.

What jocabia means is report only the ones that are too obscene. But i do think that if someone insulst you, reply to them in the way of an actual debate and not insult them back. And if they can't move away from insults toward an actual debate, then just ignore them completely.

The second post you quote is in poor taste, but a joke. The fourth post you quote is acceptable. The rest are isolated examples of relatively minor rule violations.

The fact is, if half a dozen people make ~1 flamy post in a couple of flamy threads, and one person makes ~50 which represents a large chunk of their recent forum activity, it is no surprise that the majority of the blame will fall on that one individual. It is not unfair, it is common sense.

People posting in that thread have already had a hint dropped that their conduct is not OK. That thread may in fact be locked soon if the standard of debate does not improve. But it is entirely appropriate that the official warning goes to you.
