Hey, is it allowed for two players, with a nation each, playing from the same computer, both to join the UN?

No. Only one UN nation per computer. Any number of non-UN nations may share a computer, however.

Uhh, how can you check this?

Because me and my brother both play NS, I don't think he joined the UN, but I did. SO in this case, if he wants to join the UN, he should use another computer?
Oh and it gets more complicated, since our parents are divorced, we change houses (and computers) once a week. It would be illegal for us to both have 1 UN nation and log on to it from both computers?

We advise you to try and log into your UN nations on separate computers.

The problem is IP addresses. If the mods see one IP address logging into two separate U.N. nations, they have no choice but to believe that is only one person. To avoid this, I suggest one of you use a proxy to log into Nationstates. That way, you have different I.P. addresses and don't have to worry about accidentely screwing up somewhere.

Yes, of course, it's only IP addresses. Carry on. Forget that we've said repeatedly that this is not the only evidence we consider.

they (at least claim (and why should we not believe them?) to) have four methods by which they check. IP addresses is one, log on pattern is another, i don't know the other two.

theres I.P addresses, email, and i'm guessing log in patterns and patterns in similarity of playing. but looking at the Game Mod Olympics they're doing a good job of enforcing that rule

The Mods and Admins use more than just IP's and E-Mails....No one knows the full extent of their power.....

Actually anyone with a decent grounding in IT could make some good guesses. But we find that most rule breakers are of the n00b skr1ptor variety.

Really. =/ I was actually completely unaware of this. I assumed that I.P. addresses were your standard way of checking, like most other websites. My apologies if this was actually offensive in any way.

No. Only one UN nation per computer. Any number of non-UN nations may share a computer, however. One UN nation per PC? Not one UN nation per household (or IP)? SWEET!!! :D

Note: Both of my PCs are connected to a router (DHCP server). Shouldn't be a problem, eh?

The rule is "one per player". One per PC is merely an enforcement clause we've been forced to adopt for technical reasons, and it's not our only method of detection. I don't use the 8 PCs on my local LAN to have 8 UN nations. Don't use your LAN to make 2. We really don't like that.
