Okay, this is my first time here. I just stumbled upon this post

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10638179&postcount=20

in the "Other forums" thread.

It links to a very disturbing site the FAQ of which states this:
[Our posters] are a portion of the male and female population ranging in age from their teens to quite old who share a bond of having a particular affinity for teen and/or pre-teen girls. In most cases this encompasses a clearly sexual attraction. Many choose not to act upon their sexual attraction, while others advocate a girl's freedom to sexual choice. Most of those posters accept the label 'girl lover', which is often abbreviated to 'GL' or 'GLer'. Society would call them "Pedophiles." We always have a few posters who do not identify as girl lovers, and who range from supportive to hateful.

In light of the recent discussion, I'd like to ask a mod to please take a look at this.

Thank you.

Thank you. After past offensenses, I support the banning or at least official warning of Nexus.

It's a scary site, yes, but actionable?

Hell yeah! ebaumsworld is illegal. The mods can make this illegal.

You know, when a link to an exposed boob is not allowed, one would kind of hope that a link to a self-confessed pedophile chat site isn't either.

But yeah, this isn't for me to decide, which is why I brought it here.

Oh, thanks. I didn't put that link in because it's linked to from the single post link, but you're right.

Hey, I've complained about that puritanism before.

one would kind of hope that a link to a self-confessed pedophile chat site isn't either.

The thing is, there doesn't seem to be anything obscene going on there. And while the mods may decide to ban links to the site, if linking to it was not banned when he posted the link, then he shouldn't be punished for it, because it would be retroactive punishment.

But yeah, this isn't for me to decide, which is why I brought it here.

I support the banning of links to the site if there is enough substance there to make us fear it may be a site where kids are lured into the clutches of paedophiles, but not punishing someone if what he did was not against the rules when he posted.

Okay, not to make a huge discussion out of this, but here's a couple things:
Hey, I've complained about that puritanism before.
Heh. I'm actually okay with that "puritanism". Sure, sometimes you wish you could be a little more daring, but there are kids on here. Kids meaning anything down to 11, if recent memory serves right. And while it's true that in both your and my countries you can see nude breasts on afternoon television, I'm still perfectly comfortable with the fact that on here, you can't, period.

I guess you're technically right about the retroactive punishment, but do we really need a rule that says "Thou shalt not post links to pedophile chat sites"? Shouldn't that be a given?
But yeah, if you try to look at it unemotionally, I guess it really depends on if the mods find the site to be objectionable enough to violate any rules.
Personally, I actually ventured back there only after your post and, to me, things like a 35 year old french kissing a 10 year old are plenty objectionable.

But yeah (once again), "personally" and "emotionally" shouldn't be the key words here, I'm afraid.

Guys, let's keep the posting to a minumum so that a mod can sort through this with ease. And, Lord, sometimes I agree with the right wings. Ban this site from the internet, Bush! Do something right for once!

No, I don't support censorship, but this is near breaking the laws of the US.

In order that Girl Chat be preserved there is 7 posting rules.

1. No erotica. At all!.
2. No requests for, nor posts of, nor links to prohibited material.
3. No blatant flames, excessive profanity, nor insults.
4. Don't reveal identifying details about yourself or other posters.
5. No overly detailed nor prurient sexual discussions.
6. Don't post admissions of potentially illegal activities.
7. No requests to meet underage participants in Real Life.

These I copy pasted from the site in question. Please ban me for posting this other forum I belong to in a thread asking for such. Please please please do as it would make you look very bad.

Wow this is a tough one.

I actually remember a similar incident at 3DO. Link posted with no comments and no responce. It was felt that it was done for shock value and considering the average age of the community at the time; it was felt that it had to be removed.

I would think the same thing is in play. Especially considering Dark's responce in this thread.

Liver! Find your happy place bud! Don't get yourself tossed over this!

I don't envy you mods over this.

You know, this is the second time you have tried for suicide by Mod. I hate to tell you this, DSN, but the Mods here really stick to their guns when it comes to allowing debates.

If you're that desirous of a banning, go read the One Stop Shop and go violate a rule, but I doubt that they will give you the satisfaction of providing a persecution complex for ya.

Yes, because a mod would like bad if he banned you for linking to a pedo site (second offense).

I'm declaring that link inappropriate for NationStates and have removed the post. I shall be discussing with the moderators whether or not it is actionable.

Well, I appreciate the warning, however, following the established patterns, I have to believe that decision has already been made.
Since I don't have puppets, please allow me to say best wishes to you, and almost everyone else. You've confirmed my hopes that there are enough sane people among todays youth to offset the insanity unleashed by previous generations.
