He has not asked me personally to verify this, but I haven't come across anything in General or in here which points to the reasoning behind this deletion. If someone could illuminate this for me, i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

There could be many reasons.

Maybe he didn't log into his naiton on the NS homepage, maybe he broke a rule, etc.

I understand that, and that's why i'm asking for someone to clarify it.

Threats of bodily harm, or encouraging others to do harm, are taken quite seriously here.

No, there is not a 3-strikes rule.

There's a 3-bad-UN-proposals-and-you're-ejected-from-the-UN rule. We've been known to let spammers get a couple of warnings before being deleted, and we'll even let the occasional forum thread get a little too rowdy without any official warnings or forumbans. Those things are pretty minor.

Threats of bodily harm are an insta-DEAT offense and have been for some time. There are multiple other no-warning deletion offensess as well, such as griefing and offensive nation name. No new precedent was set here. He, like all other non-DOS players, is free to make and play a new nation, as he's not banned from the game, but Potaria will not be restored..

The why of it....

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8784641&postcount=3

Promoting illegal activity: Don't start threads describing the best way to get away with murder, rape, child abuse, software piracy, bombing the UN, killing the President, or anything of that nature. We don't find it amusing, and it puts the forums at risk. Such threads will be deleted. Egregious posters of such may be banned, deleted, or even have their ISP contacted. We shouldn't have to spell this out, but apparently we do.

Threats: Any post, telegram, or other entry which can be read as a threat against a player's life or safety is forbidden. We will consider all such threats to be real and actual, not satire or hyperbole, and act accordingly.

What can't I post?

Any content that is:

* obscene
* illegal
* threatening
* malicious
* defamatory
* spam

This applies to your nation's name, motto, and other customizable fields, any messages you write, images you post, or any other content you upload or link to NationStates. If you do, your nation will be deleted. See the site's Terms & Conditions for details.

Some actions are more serious than others, and therefore carry a greater penalty than others. We will not tolerate threats to others' safety and encouragement to others to physically harm anyone.

Thanks for the clarification. That's all fair enough, I'm not here to argue on his behalf, I was just wondering for my own curiosity.

However, he has mentioned to me that he can no longer access NS. Has he been forum banned for any length of time?

Er, sorry about all this. I forgot about that rule, so, yeah... The deat was justified.

You can be sure that it won't happen again. :p

No sarcasm - it's nice to see someone take responsibility for their actions and simply modify their behavior. It's not incredibly unusual, but unusual enough that my respect for an individual goes up every time I see it. Hope to see you around.

I'll be here for the long run. You can count on it.
