Maybe it was because U.S. soldiers have given too many arms, legs, feet, hands and lives in Iraq to be called jackasses, either way you will have more luck in moderation.

It is true they have given a lot. Doesn't change the fact that these particular GI's may infact be jackesses.

I notice that the site linked to has adverts for porn, which is against NS linking rules.

I wondered the same thing about my attempt at an RPing "What's the Wheather Like Where You Are?" thread, but sometimes, Mods just feel like laying down some smack.

Because all American soilders are perfect beings that would never even consider acting as if the Iraqis are subhuman...even though they are. Evidence that suggests the contrary is clearly commie propaganda.

I asked the mods a while if it was possible to provide a 1-2 word explanation when they randomly close threads so that we could skip the step where we find out the rule that was broken and move straight to debating whether or not that rule was being bent by the mods or not. Saves time, see.

Heh, that would help. Apparently this particular thread was closed because the linked site had links to porn or something. I personally didn't notice, and can't be fucked checking as too tired.. But I didn't notice anything. So pretty weak reason.

Was pretty much what I was asking for. I got a patronising answer if I remember rightly, and it still doesn't get done.

Perhaps that might be because there is an ENORMOUS number of tasks we're trying to keep up with, and every tiny little task does not need a 1) permission from the posters for a closing, 2) a through explanation, and 3)moderation team begging forgiveness for closing a thread?

If indeed there were links to porn sites in the links provided, shutting the thread was pretty mild.

Usually, shutting a thread without issuing a warning means it is pushing the line. If you'd like an explanation with each thread closed (which should tell you something in it is not appropriate for a site used in schools) or sent to spam (self-evident), then an official warning should be appended to each nation for each infraction.

See, I don't really think either the posters or the moderation team would care much for that.

I often don't post why I'm closing a thread because I don't want to 'bump' the thread and bring it even more attention. Why move it to the top of this list (and give the topic starter the satisfaction of havnig successfully pissed off a mod) when a simple [close thread] does the trick?

Only one moderator knows why this thread was closed without looking it up, and that's the one who closed it. It wasn't me. And since nobody bothered to link to the closed thread in all this whining and bitching about patronising behavior, I'll be damned if I'll take the time to dig through General to find it. Courtesy works both ways, people.

Why not lock the thread and edit the last post in, stating the reason for locking? like:
