I respect any opinion on the existence or nonexistence of deities/gods/whatever and the right to espouse such positions. I do not respect the right to call people of faith - morons, intellectually-challenged, to compare them to racists (not specific people mind you but the entirety of people of faith), sexists and homophobes, intellectually-crippled, etc.

I know we run a little loose and free on the issue because it's necessary to foster discussion (in my opinion) to a degree of misrepresenting certain faiths and comparing God to Santa Claus or comparing Islam to believing the moon is made out of green cheese. I don't really find such things to be a big deal (as I'm sure you don't) even if they aren't very understanding (I know. Look who's talking). However the behavior in this thread goes beyond the pale.

Above she is mostly just disagreeing with the belief.

And thank Xenu for that!

Unlike superstitious nonsense, scientific facts are not determined by what makes cowardly ignorami "feel nice." Yes, the belief that Sky Daddy made this planet just for you is probably a very warm and fuzzy feeling, but science doesn't give a fig how you feel about it. Science is about honesty. Science is about putting the external reality above your personal feelings, and creating a worldview that is based on something more significant than your own personal hangups. Science is about being a freaking grown up, and moving past your need to make the entire world conform to your preconceptions.

And that's why modern Creationists will never, ever be scientists.

Despite the obvious innaccuracy in that some scientists who never claim creation or ID is science are actually scientists, she goes further to attack the people who believe such things.

You'll also see other mild insinuations that beliefs in God are held by people who are delusional and whatnot, but it gets worse. When I suggested she attack the idea and not the person.

I do attack the idea. I also attack any adult human[b]--who is not suffering from an [b]incapacitating mental illness[b]--who chooses to subscibe to such a [b]reprehensible and pathetic form of "thought."

It's much like how I attack racism, while also being honest about my utter lack of respect for any adult who is pathetic enough to subscribe to racist notions.

I believe people are free to be racist, sexist, superstitious, homophobic, or anything else they damn well please. I respect their RIGHT to believe those things. But I have no respect for the beliefs, and I lose respect for any person who holds them.

Whether or not there is a God, believing in the literal truth of the Biblical creation myth makes you a moron. If you are a full-grown adult who can't handle the concept of metaphor, you're a doofus.

...

"Absolute" reality? Gimme a break. Creationism has nothing to do with reality, of any kind, it has to do with mental crutches for the intellectually crippled. It has to do with cowards choosing willful ignorance because they are too lazy to use the one trait that distinguishes them from sheep...the ability for rational, critical thinking.

It's not just about keeping Creationism and superstition out of science classrooms. It's about keeping sloppy, lazy, cowardly anti-thinking out of schools entirely.

Emphasis mine. Seriously, is that really necessary? She admits she is attacking the people. Compares religion to racism, sexism and homophobia. And then suggests that people who hold 'superstitions' are various derogatory terms. She wasn't aiming the attacks at me, but I find them equally offensive (which of course is not what you're here to guard against) and completely contrary to what one should do to encourage a discourse.

The first three posts there is really no problem, its not flamebait, its not even trolling, its just a response designed to appeal to emotion.

The last post might need to be looked into. Its hardly the worst that has ever been posted here, but that one seems deliberatly designed to force an irrational angry response.
