Question regarding locked thread

My understanding was that general policy regarding threads that dealt with already done topics were left to fizzle out - especially since it could begin the discussion of improvements of the previous resolution. I am curious to know if this policy has changed or if a different reason was used for locking that thread.

Quite obvious, he was getting into one question that most politicans won't go. (Which is saying something about the guy in questions intelligence) Not only does it rip asunder the rule of staying far away from politics and keeping everything light it goes into religion to which is a very bad spot. It could have easily become into a flamming session with religion at the core, that I think, is a mods worse nightmare, so they just nipped it before it could begin.

How does that make it any less valid for a UN debate. We have had several debates that went over without issues regarding this subject before, and issues about same sex marriage and abortion on almost a monthly basis without it degrading into a massive flame war (a few have, admittedly, but the majority do not require intervention).

But in two seconds it went into the finer points of religion, that is never a good sign.

So? The fact of the matter is that there wasn't a flame in there. Whether most threads that operate like this deteriorate into flames or not (and my experience in the UN would say that the trend is they generally don't - at least not on the UN board), that doesn't mean you do a premptive lock of all threads that deal with religion. Where in the rules - either in the UN or here does it say we aren't allowed to discuss religion. The only criteria for the UN forum (outside the norm) is relevance to the UN - which that thread has.
Add on that these "finer points" were regarding a real life reference in the actual proposal and that the response would almost certainly be in the form of "RL != UN" (thus clearing up a misconception on the part of the author of what is permissable), I think the thread would've "deteriorated" into a learning exercise for the author on what is and isn't allowed in proposals, not a flame war.

I would imagine that this isn't the case. If it were, hundreds of threads in General would have been locked.
I am not the moderator who locked the thread though, so we'll wait til they make an appearance. Keep in mind that today is Thanksgiving, and I know that a few of the moderators aren't going to be back for a few more days, so I would suggest bumping it once every three days if no response is made.

I didn't lock it, but I've got a pretty good idea why...
First, it's a proposal that is doomed due to duplication. It can't be improved, as the legal parts are already covered.
Second, it came out rather hostile: "Oy! We'll show those creationists how stupid they are!"
Third, it was already spinning into a General-esque discussion with the last post.
There was no reason for it to stay open. All that would have happened is creation/evolution sniping or more slamming of the original proposal.
