"Anyone have anything to share before I try it? As in, effective ways, persuasions, dissuasions, etc.? (I'm doing this for valid reasons, not something stupid like a breakup or fight with my parents.)"

It's a bit like entrapment to me. :\

But what if he is serious? Do you all have any way to intervene through local authorities?

That's against the rules? I don't remember seeing anything like that in the OSRS.

Also... can you please undelete the thread? I just want to keep the advice that people gave in it. If you must deal with it, just lock it or something.

I was more looking for a reason not to do it, because I don't think I really can. It just seems like I have no choice at the moment.

I think the problem was the "effective ways" part. Since suggesting that someone kill themselves is a flame, telling them how to do so probably also qualifies. Thus, you told tthe people reading the thread to break the rules, and such is very naughty.

Perhaps you should call your local distress center and talk with them, you'll find no shortage of people telling you to do it here.

Note: I'm not one of them.

I wouldn't take offense at that. Thus, I don't think the mods should either.

There are some fairly virulently anti-Nazi mods. That's not to question their subjectivity...but if I flamed a Nazi, I doubt they would be offended. I would still be breaking the rules, though, and would still be punished.

Ok, I tried that last night; while most of their advice was BS they did manage to convince me that as long as I have people to talk to (such as the NS community) I have people who will be affected and shouldn't be. Not as though anyone here would care, but oh well. Slightly more convincing was the argument that the only methods I could attempt at my house were more painful, probably more physically so than life itself.

Anyway, I'm still here...not sure for how long though... please ignore/lock/delete all threads on this topic.

In the past several days, I have warned and deleted several Nazis, and several Nazi-baiters and Nazi flamers. Everybody gets equal treatment.

FWIW, I don't moderate based on what offends me. I moderate based on the rules set by Max Barry, as interpreted through several years of mod precedent. Trust me when I say that Max and I might disagree on what is offensive and what isn't. There are a few areas where I know I have a blind spot, and in those cases, I'll pass a task to another mod (or at least get a second or third opinion).

The system works.
