There's about 4 different threads now about the same issue. Is it time they were merged somewhat?

The latter appears to have died, the former is on a slightly different subject. Still, if you want a merge, it might be helpful to give links. Apologies if I've missed any.

Oh... em. Yeah.. probably should have done that, thanks. :D
Well, hopefully, they'll have died out by the time the mods get to this, so there mightn't be a need for it. :)

I've merged two of them; however, I'm leaving the "Riots Spread to Germany and Belgium" thread separate because it is a slightly different discussion.

Did you merge this one? I mean it's two topics made by the same poster.

(Not a mod)
I don't think that should really be merged. Distasteful and doesn't really add anything to the debate.

Agreed. It's interesting how this particular poster seems to get his nose out of joint whenever anyone breathes wrong in reference to America, but thinks it's ok to make fun of Bad Things happening in places he doesn't seem to care for.
Yeah, I can say that. I'm American too, and find that sort of behaviour disgusting. And folks like him wonder why we get disliked sometimes?

Actaully, I think the above thread might explode any moment....

I think you're right. If it isn't 'actionable', mods - perhaps at least a closure of it before it escalates further? I mean we have people equating his tasteless sense of humor to the World Trade Center getting blown up. This just won't end well.

He was laughing at a play on words. He never said it was funny that they were rioting, or that people were getting hurt, or had died. Grow some skin, and learn to make distinctions, please.

Maybe we should all just step out, as PM did, and as I shall do now. Eutrusca evidently regards us as trolls, and so I have no desire to further provoke him. If we let him be, the thread will die anyway.

If not for his pattern of behaviour, would buy that excuse. *chuckles* Already stepped out with a pat on the head and a smile. Find his continued attempts a 'getting in a dig' amusing, but weak anyways.
Some of us have made our distinctions and found his 'sense of humor' lacking. It's not like you have to agree, and it doesn't mean anyone needs to 'grow skin' over it. You can use all sorts of rationalizations if you want. It doesn't change how he initially introduced it, and later tried to backpedal a bit.
No, probably not actionable, given some of the other things that get tossed around in there, but hey.

Sounds like a viable solution to me. I never did quite "get" why people will constantly post in a thread they find offensive, trying to shut people up, instead of just hopping over to another thread, and going about your day. *shrugs*
~EDIT~ I'll go with the ruling, (basically because I have no choice) however I want to be on the record that locking it was a very poor decision, in my opinion..

Over-reaction, but whatever. I suppose quoting a major news network is now verboten on General as well as all the other things we've had to give up.

That's not an absolute though, is it? If a major news network ran on article showing Goatse, or linking to ebaumsworld, it would not be permitted in General. It's the content, not the source, that, however justifiably, Euroslavia acted on.

Something to remember? Just because someone else did it, or said it, doesn't make it 'right'. Or funny. Ciao, all! *heads to work, and out of ze thread*

Seeing as you didn't add a link to where you got it from, you didn't even put an attempt for a conversation, and you've managed to offend a plethora of people, it deserved to be locked.

So remember, boys and girls. No threads about anything unless you can find it on the net, and it makes EVERYONE happy!

That's bullshit Sick Nightmares, and you know it. When quoting news sources, adding a link to the news source is generally what you're expected to do, so that people can see that you haven't manipulated the article. It's common courtesy. Not doing so can qualify as trolling.

I agree with the fact that it is generally good conduct to provide a link. BUT, I think it only harms us if we can only post things that are on the net. What do we do if we have an idea for a really good post, but it isn't something thats on the net?

There's nothing wrong with posting something that isn't on the internet. You seem to have misunderstood me. Another major factor in this is the fact that Eutrusca didn't make an effort in making it a discussion. He was only out to make a statement, which ended up offending a lot of people, hence it was closed. I do believe we're done here.
