but the basis of comparison is the Europeans. This is a group of people who, when they had the power to, raped and pillaged the rest of the planet for 500 years, before just about destroying themselves in two wars. Now suddenly they're the moral compass for the rest of the planet?

Fass that is an accurate reading of historical fact and thus not flame. ;)
I can't see how these could be classed as trolling. Fass's posts cannot be read as offensive to large groups of people, with the intention of provoking flaming responses.
I guess they could be seen as flamebait, but in my opinion they would class as extremely borderline if they count at all.

Whatever you call it, Fass seems to be acting like a jerk for no better reason than he can. *shrugs* I see no point to the posts referenced other than to provoke someone else into a rude response - which rather sounds like baiting, no?
You don't have to like the way some people post their opinions on things, past, present, or possible future. Having an opinion you don't agree with isn't a crime. Granted, said posters also need to take care in their delivery, but making snarky lil cuts like Fass has been doing without offering anything of content back doesn't seem to cut it either.

Why is he doing this?
He is doing it to provoke an arguement, not a debate on the subject.
Unfortunately even though Axis Nova's statement is 'history', which could be thrown back at him quite easily, Fass does not have the right to just start being at best rude and condescending.
I'm afraid I have little time for people who think that they can get away with this sort of thing, JUST because they are on the internet and not face to face.
