Deleted Nations

So, I was just curious -- how long does it typically take for requests for the restoration of a nation to be processed? Restoration as in being un-deleted.

Thank you.

If by undeleted you mean a nation that was purposefully deleted by the mods for rulebreaking, they won't restore your nation.

If you mean a nation that died naturally after 28 or 60 days, then it will take as long as it takes them to get to it on the Tasklist. Which I think usually is 1-3 days. It'll be back soon! :)

Yeah, if the mods deleted your nation, it's gone for good. If it died naturally, well, patience is a virtue.

Oh, that's very kind of them to delete a nation for no apparent reason, with no communication to its owner, and when its owner had never had any run-ins with anyone before.

Makes sense to me, though, since people are fond of behaving irrationally.

Thank you, moderators!

It also depends on: how many other tasks we have to do, how many nations one is requesting us to revive, whether this is the first or hundred and first time your nations have bitten the dust, the phase of the moon, whether or not the Red Sox win the pennant..... ;)

About the only reason I can figure my nation, Kakkalo, was deleted is because of an image I posted on a thread <i>almost a week before my nation bit the dust</i>.

I'll sum it up for you.

A relatively large thread with many people taking part in a discussion as to when they "first lost their virginity."

People provide their written accounts of sexuality. Those people aren't deleted.

I stick in an image of the simple truth of the matter, and my nation is removed.

Ridiculous on so many levels that I shouldn't even have to describe, but hey, people do what they want. Am I right?

OBVIOUSLY!

What can't I post?

Any content that is:

* obscene
* illegal
* threatening
* malicious
* defamatory
* spam

This applies to your nation's name, motto, and other customizable fields, any messages you write, images you post, or any other content you upload or link to NationStates. If you do, your nation will be deleted. See the site's Terms & Conditions for details.

Absolutely. We are just picking on you and you alone. After all, posting a picture of a woman spreading her genitalia open in no way violates the obscenity clause of the TOS nor could POSSIBLY be construed as inappropriate for a game site used by SCHOOLS.

You want to post pictures like that? Do it elsewhere.

Apparently sex education doesn't exist, and no one ever actually sees a vagina -- they are terrible, terrible things!

Never mind the fact that almost each and every one of those people already had, many by 14 years of age.

You must be right, though. Such an image is obscene because someone might not like it, because when they look at it they get a funny feeling inside, which means they don't like it, and they don't like it because they don't like it, because when they look at it, they find they don't like it because they don't like....

So much for objectivity!

Dude, cool it. It doesn't matter if you don't find it offensive, there are lots of people here who will. It's in the TOS, and it's against the rules. That sort of stuff can and will get you deleted on sight. Katganistan is right, this is used in schools. That sort of stuff is banned in schools. Sure, you and others might not find it that offensive, but there are more people out there who WILL. By continuing to argue about it, you risk more severe punishment.

your post was against the rules you should have read before posting.

katganistan was nice enough to refer directly to the post in question and to explain in detail, copying the very rule text, just how you broke the rules and why you got deleted.

what else do you want? have them change the rules because you don't like them? not gonna happen.

if you don't agree with the obscene picture clause in the rules, you should never have participated in the forum. accepting the rules is a must for that, and you agreed to them by posting.

Nowadays people can find anything offensive so we all have to be careful now more than ever. So i see the best thing is just to say "yes sir" and go on. I say just follow the rules and hope that the mods have rules that are favorable to both sides, the easily offended and the hard hearted.
Giving the Mods credit they are trying to prevent the blantantly offensive stuff like people bashing religions and talking inappropriately about ethnic groups. There also has to be a line drawn somewhere or the forums would become very dull instead of the enjoyable discussions/debates that we have in the forums.

So much for objectivity!Utterly, utterly irrelevant.

This is not a scientific lab, nor is this a courtroom. This is an online forum which has a certain rule-set that all posters are expected to follow. If they do not follow the rules, agents of the the owner distribute punishment. "Objectivity" is utterly irrelevant here, as everything involved is a series of judgement calls. The act of moderation is, by definition, subjective. Those of us who were selected to be moderators were selected because the owner had faith in our ability to interpret and enforce the rules. In other words, because our ability to reach subjective conclusions.

If moderating a forum was a purely objective exercise, then flesh-and-blood moderators wouldn't be necessary: one would simply create a script to examine all the posts on the forum and then hand out punishment according to some internal algorithm.

I suggest that you quit trying to play the role of martyr and quit trying to shift the blame to the moderators for your actions. If you truly cannot comprehend why the picture you posted is unacceptable, then perhaps you are not mature enough to contribute to public forums, or perhaps your grasp of social mores is tragically stunted. Either way, it is not a problem on our end, it is a problem on yours.

You have a choice: you can either follow the rules and quit these pathetic games, or you can continue to act against forum rules and eventually find yourself unable to post here at all. You came out of the gate with a hostile, confrontational attitude, and you have continued with that same MO. It isn't appretiated, and we don't much care for it.

Well said Hack, and might I add for future reference, even despite the fact that it has been pointed out several times before?

Judging from personal observation, carrying on a poor attitude will certainly not help your case--present or future. If you have a proper complaint, do it according to the rules (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9530191&postcount=9). Not like this, where you are likely to only gather greater punishment.

Whoa -- hey! I'm extremely offended by the word "mores." In fact, I vomited for damn near half an hour after reading that word, it upset my stomach so much! You know, if someone chooses to be offended by a picture, then I can choose to be offended by anything I like, and really, it's just as reasonable. Of course, people are conditioned in such a manner that they really can't help themselves. I'd really love to have you show me from an objective viewpoint how such a picture, depicting nothing more than the simple truth, can really be found offensive.

Let me take a stab at what you'll say: "it's wrong because it contains images of genitalia which is in turn wrong because a picture of genitalia is a picture of something that exists, and if something exists and someone chooses for whatever reason to be offended by it, it's offensive, because they chose to get their panties in a twist about it because it contains images of genitalia which is in turn wrong because a picture of genitalia is a picture of something that exists, and if something exists and someone chooses for whatever reason to be offended by it, it's offensive, and wrong, because they chose to get their...."

I suppose your definition of maturity is the solidifying of an individual's irrational beliefs. Well, then, I guess I'll never meet your standards, because I'm just out here to make a little sense. You're the kind of guy who bans me from your Counter-Strike server because you can't fathom how there's anybody out there who's better than you at something. It sets your mind, if you can even call it that, ablaze, and you can do nothing more than reject my superiority to maintain your own ill-founded sense of self. "He's obviously cheating, because no one could react that quickly, or consider that many environmental variables to discern where enemies might be located!"

I'm obviously immature, because no one could ever look at an image, take it for what it is, and not get all worked-up about it for no logical reason.

Here's the picture for reference. (http://someoneelseseyes.net/the_revenge_of_lol.gif) Prepare to get upset over nothing!

Greater punishment? Are you threatening me for speaking the truth? What, are you going to come to my home and murder me because you don't like that?

Be my guest. I'll thank you when I'm dead.

This is not a scientific lab, nor is this a courtroom. This is an online forum which has a certain rule-set that all posters are expected to follow. If they do not follow the rules, agents of the the owner distribute punishment.

Here's what I read: This is not a place of reason, nor is this a place where reason is upheld. This is the domain of un-reason which has a certain rule-set, established by an individual with a collection off senseless belifs, that all posters are expected to follow. If they do not follow the rules, agents of the owner distribute ignorance and stupidity.

Carry on.

That will be quite enough of that, Mr. Motodogs. Sophistry hasn't exactly been in style for some two thousand, four hundred years or so.

Please do not open a new topic to debate this, as you've asked your question and got your answer. You don't like it? Tough. Find an internet forum with rules you can abide by, or learn to abide by ours.
