I consider it trolling.

The thread author has admitted the whole point was an 'experiment' to make people believe his thread was about feminism, when in fact it was designed to goad people into attacking the viewpoint he admits he lead people to believe. No actual purpose to the thread it seems except to fuck with people on this forum by going "Hahaha! I fooled j00!"

I let you believe it was written by a feminist (nowhere actually writing that it was - I just tagged along on your assumption that she was, notice how I didn't write that she was a feminist in the first post, only that it was a column on feminism, which is true), yes, and I did it to expose prejudice against feminists, yes.

I didn't do it to upset, and I didn't do it to anger, though, which is something that needs to be fulfilled for this to count as trolling, IMHO. Nowhere did I misrepresent what this woman said, and nowhere did I lie about her or any of her writing. I just played along in your assumption about her to see how you reacted to your own misconception about this woman, revealing how the label of something as "feminist" automatically led to people interpreting it as an attack on men, instead of what it was - a criticism directed at advertising as well as objectification of men.

So, no, I do not feel that this was trolling, as trolling is malicious. While it may not have been the most honest thing to do, none of it was a lie, and none of it was done to upset or anger. I reiterate that.

Just because I was not honest about my motives does not make this an act of trolling. Seeing as the thread has been played out, and there really is no more point to it, other than to perhaps attract those who have not read the thread, I am not opposed at all to see it locked or even deleted if need be.

You implied it was feminist by the very title and throughout the thread. That you say you didn't mean anything malicious by it is something of a joke considering the gleeful way you ripped into anyone who, god forbid, took it at face value when you continued to maintain it had anything to do with feminism instead of your ploy to get people to attack. Which as you also stated in the thread, you expected. I'd call it trolling. I guess we'll just have to wait on a moderator's opinion on this, I've had my say.

Would you have reacted differently to the article if the word 'feminist' had only existed in the article itself?

The article still presents us with a discussion topic...does advertising say anything about us as a society? Whether it was written by a feminist or not shouldn't matter...but it clearly made a difference in the WAY people read it.

I continued to maintain that it had something to do with feminism because it did have something to do with feminism; the column even mentioned feminism itself. I just did not correct anyone's assumption about what sort of connection it had to feminism, until Sinuhue asked and pointed out the discrepancy between your assumptions and what was actually written. As soon as she asked, I revealed that the woman herself was not a feminist - the very thing I had not stopped you from believing. I did not lie about her or any of her writing.

As have I. I still continue to maintain that this does not amount to trolling as it was not done to anger.

I wouldn't consider that to be trolling.

May I request that it be locked? If it leads to people being angry or upset, I really don't want it to be around, as that truly was not my intent. I apologise to anyone whom this may have inadvertently upset.
