Suggesting that someone who chooses to enlist is coming back in a body bag and other snide and grossly unkind comments is beyond flaming, beyond any term I can possibly come up with.

I protest this treatment of this young man in the strongest possible terms!

That's not really a flame. it's just some advice. MAybe trolling, but it's pretty mild.

Yes, Eutrusca, that's called advice. Not exactly polite, but still, it's advice.

EUTRUSCA:

Instead of playing the "respect the military" card and whining about something some useless and clearly apathetic civilian has to say, why not turn his point on its head and respond with similar gusto?

Something like:

"Hey pal, that's good advice -- in fact, you should heed it, too. You should always carry around an easily identifiable body bag so that your useless corpse can be seen on TV after the next terrorist attack that might have been prevented but for those choosing the military life. You may not like how or what the military does, but deep down inside I know you're glad we do it. For that matter, the freedom to utter such garbage is protected by those you mock. So go ahead and talk out of your ass if you like, that's your right -- just remember, we make it possible."

Or something like that. My father served in the Navy, my brother was in the 82nd Airborne and my best friend just retired after 10 years in the infantry where he rose from private to captain and is now running for local political office because he wants to continue serving his country like he did in Kosovo and Iraq. So while I may be a bleeding heart liberal, one thing I will NEVER do is to mock or make any serious jabs at those who serve. To the wolves but for the grace of soldiers go any of us.

Ignore that jackass and let him wallow in his assumed superiority -- and insecurity.

Except I'm pretty sure that quite a few parts of that repsonse would breach the rules (bolded)

Kewl. Unfortunately, the Mods are closely monitoring me and would happily ban my ancient ass for saying things like that! ;)
