string locked. why?

I have a concern/question that I do believe is legitimate and not just
"you shut me down". (well partially, but for my future knowledge)

Euroslavia was the last to post on a string I began with regards to
a suggestion to a future NS2. I had posted under NS2 but there
a person said it should be in the general, so that is where I headed.

Here is the thread
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=442156

Euroslavia posted:
"Advertising for another site here that has nothing to do with NS is not allowed. Don't do it again."

So I assumed that links in general were not allowed even in the general
forum.
Not even links to news paper articles about the recent hurricane.
Well, maybe a natural disaster is an exception.
But perhaps not other links.

But I did find that links are allowed.
Maybe just not "advertisments" for them?
So one has to have the actual link linkable?
Or what?

I am asking a real question. I am not attempting to be sarcastic or anything.
When people get into a discussion in the general section and
someone asks to post a source. Is this allowed?

But I find in the forum rules the following which
states we can post a link to an article or something
we want to discuss.

rules with mention of linking

Again, the Moderators are pretty lenient about threads within the General Forums, so a lot of allowed, but that doesn’t give you the right to bash specific people, such as the President, fellow NS’ers…or Moderators themselves…

So, I am led to believe that the string I began was unfairly locked?
Unless,
There is a time limit for strings.
Say, after 24 hours of no posts the automatically get locked
or something.
I'll see if I can find other info on this.

So after all this I began a new thread withOUT any links,
but throughout the thread I posted information which,
although it may look like I reposted info verbatim, I did not.
It is history which I just happen to be fairly read up on.

I guess I'd just like some clarification over
"Advertising" and links in general.
Telling of a site is "advertising" ?
But having a link is not?
Or is "advertising" a general term that is means strictly or
primarily commercial site. The site I mentioned was from a non-profit
research group. And would a link to my source instead been acceptable?

You posted in the forums knowing nothing of Nationstates or the book Jennifer Government. This entire site is full of satire, which is what Jennifer Government is all about. This site is essentially an advertisement for the book, which happens to be an anti-corporate. If you're suggesting that Max Barry change the way he writes...well, that's probably not a good suggestion at all.

You were correct in the fact that your link was not an advertisement, and I apologize for that, but I still maintain that the thread should have been locked, because of the fact that you need to at least read a little on why this site is the way it is. All of the issues are satirical for a reason, as to mimic the book, since this site is an advertisement for it.

Not entirely true.

I started 2 countries at NationStates.net about 2 weeks ago.
And found the forum a couple days later.

I assumed nationstates.net was an online game.
Someone linked me to it.

You are correct however that I know little - actually nothing- about the book.

I assumed the online game was made based on the book.
I did not know it was an advertisement.
I would not have guessed.
I thought some fans of the book just made the game because they liked it.

peace.

Max Barry himself created this game and wrote the first 30 issues of the game.
