That's something that the US government does not like very much

It's a betting thread, not a death threat. I think it is being interpreted as it should, in jest. People ought not to bend themselves out of shape over what is actually fairly innocuous stuff, especially in light of the ongoing poor showings of Mr. Bush...

I just don't think anything good is going to come out of this, and in all honesty, people have gotten visits from the secret service for less. So I give it to the mods to decide if this isn't be best of threads to be having about.

I'm sorry, I know this is not helpful, but really, does ANYTHING good ever come from threads in General?

I remember the first thread I made that got me in hot water with the Mods. That'd be the one where I suggested a 'grudge-match'-style showdown between Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat... in jest, natch. After it got deleted, I came right back with another suggesting instead a grudge-match between Ariel Sharon and Ariel Sharon's own weight in Palestinian toddlers.

Ah, good times... well, good except insofar as the shit it landed me in at the time. But it was funny, even for all that needless hassle. People had fun with it. And I thought it would be fun to keep this betting thread going, especially if it could be kept going as light entertainment rather than some heartfelt-and-deadly-serious attack on somebody.

I mean, come on, you must admit, the man is wide open for much, much harsher words and thoughts than the ones used or described in this particular thread.

It appears to me (at least) that no threats were in fact made, but yet a harmless wager of no real importance as to "what do you think?" Which I personally can't see as a real problem, however I am not a mod.. but that is just my take on it. No one is advocating the death of anyone...

If the thread itself contains nothing objectionable or against the standard rules, then whether the US government likes it or not should have no relevance. I'm sure the Iraqi government would have been less than enamoured with a great deal of threads that have happened in General in the past couple of years...

No threats have actually been put forth, yet the thread provides nothing good with the talk of a 'possible' assassination. I personally see no point in making a thread like this (which I have, for the record, locked before). If another moderator feels that the thread is fine, feel free to open it again.
