Stupid French! - http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=441387why? because it looks like an Anti-French thread?
then can we also lock the threads calling Bush Nero, the ones that are calling big businesses crooks, those that insult the world for not visibly rushing to US's aid after Katrina, the threads that say America is Stupid, the ones that say Religious/Athiest people are stupid...

That thread doesn't look so bad, after all, it's been pointed out that the French build above the sea level, but the US expanded below that.

Not a Mod.

Appearance can be more important than substance.

There is nothing wrong with attacking another nation's political judgement, for example...you just can't come out and call their people idiots in the title. It is common sense and courtesy.

And this one was attracting spam too.

If they want to create a relevant debate, make a non-offensive title, and develop at least a good debate, rather than saying, "The French are stupid!" That generalized comment was reason enough to close it, because of the simple fact that it's trolling.

Also, the thread was based on a Trolling post, with many comments like:

"Look! The level of that lake is way up there, the level of the river is up there, we're down here, how great of a location is this for a city!"

And another group of people I will critisize while I'm here are the people who CHOSE to stay in their houses below water level during the CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE. Not the people who couldn't leave, but the people who decided to IGNORE the MANDETORY evacuation order

as for the spam... Yeah, some were spammy but then almost all threads attract those.

But to close a thread due to it's title, especially since other threads that were 'critical' of other nations tend to be closed while others that bash the US or the Conservatives while hiding behind a neutral sounding title tend to stay open... doesn't that give the wrong Appearance of the mods as well?

Perhaps when a thread is locked, it should be explained by the locking mod why it's being locked. even if it's an "under Mod review" Like how there are explinations when threads are deleted. That way the other posters won't feel like the mods are taking sides and there is no False Appearances going on.

It's one thing to be critical (perhaps by making the title this: The French Colonisation of New Orleans was Questionable), but its another thing to say that all of the colonists from France were stupid.

An explanation was on the way, if it weren't for the fact that I was dealing with Lyric's complaint at the same time, as well as making a few changes to the mass merge/lock of the Katrina threads.

I was more concerned when you look at the posts in this thread.

TG asked that the thread be locked with no opinion on his part except the "stupid French" Title,
then the next post is the thread locked,
then fluffles.

just seemed rather... Unusual that's all. Not arguing about the lock, but the appearance did seem rather suspect without explination.

No worries. There's nothing wrong with questioning an action.
