A Hypothetical Query

I was wondering if it would be counted as flaming to tell someone that they were "free to fuck off and die"? Since it isn't telling them to "fuck off and die", I can't see that it would, but others disagree with me.

Thanks.

I wouldnt' call that flaming, there doesn't seem to be any attempt to order said person to "fuck off and die", although it is contary to the allowed language on NationStates.

Flamebaiting or not, the person who said it would be in trouble for saying it.

But no, I wouldn't consider that flamebaiting.

Lets move this from the realm of the hypothetical into the world of reality.

Ooooh...flamebaiting is a case by case thing in judging it, that would probably be considered flame baiting.

It generally goes as to context of what has happened/is happening.

My general advice is, if you even have to ask/have doubts, don't bother doing it. My specific advice is to just don't say it.

Too late.

I thought as much, but I'll wait for a mod to give an official ruling.

IMO, it constitutes just as well as flaming / flamebaiting -- given your intentions. And considering that you just went ahead and did it, without waiting on the Moderator's response to this thread...

Well done Einstein, you just reported yourself to the Mods.

No, it is not acceptable to tell someone they're free to go fuck off and die.

Second part right, first part wrong.

I made the original post on the Feminism thread yesterday.

Oh. Is it a flame or is it flamebait?

That would be flaming, since it is an attack aimed at that specific person.

Really it isnt flameing or flamebaiting. the only REAL way you could say
"feel free to fuck off and die"
is if someone is allready flameing you, and you want them to stop before it gets out of hand :sniper:

Might be flamebaiting but it nearly looked justified..

Well I think this has several issues:

I would think that telling someone they have an option wouldn't be wrong...you can tell someone they have the choice to go running nekkid in the woods, now they may not enjoy the poision ivy after if they choose to follow your suggestion...

I would think Flaming wouldn't be a problem unless you shout "Flame" in a crowded theater while using a flame thrower to keep the exit unavailable. Although being crushed by a mob trying to exit doesn't sound fun to me, but then again there are probably people out there who would enjoy that type of thing...

Flame Bait - hurm - what do you catch with flame bait? Must go fishing soon - sounds like fun and a little dangerous. But that would be my choice to try, and if I got burned on the bait or it overcooked my fish, I probably wouldn't enjoy that.

Flame: Expressing anger at someone in uncouth ways with OOC (out-of-character) comments (i.e. swearing, being obnoxious, threatening etc). It does to watch what you post IC (in-character) as well unless the other posters know you're not serious. You do not need to curse to be a flamer. Erudite slams while maintaining a veneer of politeness can also be considered flaming. Flaming in the forums should be reported in the Moderation forum, in the game itself, through Getting Help Page.

Telling someone that they're "free to fuck off and die" is no different from "fuck off and die". It's still getting the same point across and qualifies as flaming.
