I want to make this known here, I hope you will permit me to post this here

I have a forum called NSnewswire. (s9.invisionfree.com/nsn)
Its meant for news happenings in Nationstates and nothing more.
A lot of invaders and defenders and neutral NSers use that forum.

The problem began a few days ago (August 23) when one of our moderators closed a thread that went way off topic.

As a result of this, two active NSers made known their true nature as completly discusting trolls one of them has been terrorising the forum ever since.

Nations called "The Good Soldier Svejk" and "BLACKADDER" subsequently spammed every news thread totalling roughly around 30 messages within the span of a couple hours. The content of their spam was of a very vulgar, obsene and harassing nature directed entirely at the mod. I deleted all their messages and banned them from the forum.

Since then, "The Good Soldier Svejk" has returned every single day (4 times actually) posting vulgarities and insults directed entirely at the moderator. Then we delete his posts and ban him. He is in effect harassing her trying to get her to quit the forum. Several of his "friends" have also decided to support him and began flaming and trying to provoke the moderator team. So a couple others have also subsequently been banned. They claim they have a right to spew their filth on the forum, that we are censoring them, that if we dont give in to their demands, they will continue attacking the forum by signing on with new IPs and spamming us and attacking the mod. I have records of the things he is saying.
I am so bothered by this and its sick that they are doing it, they are HARASSING and insulting everyone on the forum, and they wont go away! as long as they use their proxies and the like :(

I was told there is little you can do, but please understand, that this nation "The Good Soldier Svejk" is harasing another nation in Nationstates and attacking other forums dedicated to NS. He doesnt bring his display directly to nationstates, and thats because I think he knows he would get deeted. But I implore you to help us out here theres little I can do to stop this troll.

The only other options I have is to close down the news discussion forum (basically ALL discussion), or disable registrations. But if I do that, then that is bowing to exactly what he is trying to do, destroy our forum.

If theres little you can do, then I implore everyone reading to give some kind of verbal support for our mod and let those trolls know that they are completly wrong for what they are doing. :mad:

1. No they don't have freedom of speech on your forum unless you give it to them.

2. while there is little the NS mods can do, you can file a complaint against the suspects' IP (internet provider)

3. Harrassment, though it is on the net, is still illegal and they can still be arrested for it. Especially if it stalking, as appears to be the case from your description.

If you know the persons' addresses and who their provider is, you can kindly let them know if they don't stop, their Internet Provider will be notified and if it continues the police will be called.

Since this isn't occuring in NS itself, there's nothing we can do. We don't have jurisdiction on Invision Free forums, just here. I've created a few Invision Free forums before, and I'd suggest that you turn on the option of having the administrator pre-approve of accounts before they can actually post in the forums.

You'd have a better chance at contacting the Invision Free authorities on this, and asking them about it.

You have no guarantee that the nations you name, are actually the same as the nations in the game. I personally have that covered, but I don't know if it would work that way for you too. It all depends on how you have your forum permissions set. Blackadder is posting in our forum too, but I am fully aware that there is no nation with that name. Good moderators know how to effectively deal wih spam :p

I've seen an E Blackadder around... but not lately.

I guess I will make it so registrations have to be approved. Fighting off trolls really is no fun. VERY annoying having to waste time protecting a forum from trolls.

Just disable the accounts that are spamming, if they do it again, block their IP's (internet proticol [sp?] adress). No need to get their ISP (internet service provider) unless they start trying to circumvent the ban by using an IP scrambler...

Generally, an IP ban would be more than sufficient. It's very rare that you have to contact an ISP, and I doubt that you'll reach the point.

Furthermore, if the IP ban doesn't work, you might be able to alert Invision of the problem, and let them deal with it.

Anyways, not really fair to put all the blame on the spammers, the mods on your forum are quite abusive. They react poorly to it by spamming, of course, but I must say a certain mod on your forum sure knows how to abuse her powers to deliberatly piss people off. I rather just suggest people stop visiting that forum and convince others to do the same though, rather than spamming and flaming there.
