Ban evasion

When I got banned I wasn't allowed to post at all, not even to defend my case.

Velkya isn't an exception I think http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9486489&postcount=11

OOC: (This is The Velkyan Union until my TempBan expires in 24 hrs.)

That is a tough measure. His nation "Velkya" is now deleted, just because he made an error in judgement. He obviously didn't know about this rule.

*shrug* It's impossible to know for sure whether he knew about it or not. I realize that most people don't read the rules when they first get to the site (I did but I'm weird and still managed to break one or two anyway), but they should, and if they don't read them (or don't read them thoroughly, which was my mistake) then they pay the price just like I did.

It's been a long standing rule, and common sense, really:

Posting Past Forumban: If a nation is forumbanned, that nation's player is not permitted to post on the forums with other puppet nations. Such puppets may be deleted without notice, as may the puppet master and other identified puppets. If you can't figure out why you were banned, you can file a Getting Help request asking why. You may post on the behalf of a forumbanned player to ask, in "Moderation", why that player was forumbanned. You may not post on the behalf of a forumbanned player for any other reason.

But at least I don't call it "ownt". I would call it "failed", because obviously this person didn't know the rules, and somebody failed to teach them, or someone failed to clearly point them out to that person. Well, maybe he knows it now, but I am still not sure of that. Like a teacher thinks that he partially fails, when a pupil fails his/her exams. I personally don't know all the rules here, because there are so many of them, and at least 50% of them are really confusing, vague or up to the judgement of the moderators.
I can't imagine that someone intentially wants his/her nation to be deleted, by openly admitting that a temporary forum ban will be lifted in 24 hours. I have seen people posting with a puppet, after a forum ban was implemented, and got a friendly modspeech not to post again.

Neither did I, dear.

I would call it "failed", because obviously this person didn't know the rules, and somebody failed to teach them, or someone failed to clearly point them out to that person.

Or he failed to look for them? Am I responsible because I didn't tell you not to jump off a cliff when there was a nearby sign that you could have easily seen? Of course not. It is an unfortunate incident to be sure, but I am no more responsible for your mistakes than the Mods are responsible for mine.

Yes, the more complex rules can be hard to understand, especially for the young people who frequent this site or for those whose first language is not English. Most unfortunate, but not really the fault of the Mods. Sometimes, there is no one we can blame for the unfair situations we find ourselves in, and we simply have to deal with them as best we can.

You might be surprised what people will do just to screw with other people's heads or fool them into thinking it was an accident, but I'm not. I grew up in a place where people would steal your shoes if you didn't watch out for them carefully and when they tried to steal them and you stopped them they would claim (poor liars that they were) that they mistakenly thought it was their own shoes, even though their shoes looked nothing like mine.

Is it likely that the rulebreaking was intentional? No. Unfortunately, there are assholes out there that necessitate strict rules that may not be as fair to us as we would like. :(

I understand this completely. On my school people steal shoes too, and than lie to evade a punishment. Stealing and lying is bad, but we don't run to the teacher when we catch them, unless s/he really refused to admit to be cought.
Back to the case; If I saw this forumban evasion happen, I would have posted in the thread that he could be deleted over this and friendly point out the rule that Hack did. We should be more understanding to each other. Mind you, I probably am the cause of at least 2 deletions each day, but never on cases where talking could have solved the problem too. Don't tell me that talking can be tiresome, because that is what this game is all about. We guide noobs, teach rulebrakers, and in the mean time we write long speeches to make people understand our own political believes.
Maybe I take this a little into the extreme, but nobody here can accuse me of being a mod wannabee :p

This was not very clear. What I meant here was that I report at least 2 nations each day, which censequently are deleted. That is because their names were not apropriate, and that can't be changed, so deletion was inevitable.

Lets put it this way: ignorance is not an excuse.

Yes it is. Just not a valid one. An invalid excuse, is an excuse too :p

Trust me, I know it now. Since my Nation has no chance of being recovered, I'm out of this. See you later.

PS: Why wasn't I warned, my TempBan would still be in effect till around 11 o clock!!
