Considering his history and the fact there were several death threats, I seriously doubt the Mods will reconsider that decision.

There were several death threats there, the most egregious being along the lines of if you fuck with the marines or their supporters, they will KILL you.

Sick Dreams certainly claimed himself as a supporter -- although I have to say as someone who DOES know a marine, I think they would have been disgusted at his portrayal of them.

Death threats are always taken seriously here -- always have been.

But it is an occupational hazard when one chooses to snitch on people, they never get to interpret the law or decide the punishment. Even when it is wrong.

I'm a former Marine and I was disgusted by what he had to say. I'm not sure he was making a death threat. I think he was more referring to enemies. And I think he meant other branches and militaries of other countries when he said supporters. However, it was still ridiculously ignorant.

Death threats don't necessarily have to be "I'm going to ...". I concur with my associate, Katganistan, that these were indeed serious death threats of a different variant, but nevertheless, threats.

Reporting them here makes the job a bit easier for us, so that we don't have to sent out the attack dogs to find them theirselves. Just for further reference, multiple moderators are often consulted for rulings, so that the post in question is fully understood.

Of course Euro, what constitutes a death threat here is entirely up to mod interpretation as it is private property. That said however, the young man made a statement of fact as he percieved it, as to how a branch of the US military operated. There is no way a reasonable person could conclude this individual had the ability or desire to call the marines and order them to go kill some one because he supported them, nor, did he say or imply that it was his intention to do so.
On the other hand, when someone says, "Cute girlie, I am going to kill you last." One has crossed the line of implied and entered into a direct threat, with the apparent ability to carry it out, as anyone can pick up a gun and fire. There is a huge difference here.
As I see it, both these incidents could provide the mod's with some very useful guidelines in dealing with such incidents and their respective punishments. As the matter stands however, I would fear that it could be easily argued that there were personal or political reasons for the despairity in sentencing. (if of course that even matters)
My point is not to defend the young man, as truth be told, I found his post somewhat embarrassing being former military myself. It was only to illustrate that the result of over enthusiastic snitching can often have unintended consequences.
As a whole I would commend you all on a very difficult job, dealing with very difficult people, on a daily basis, so please do not consider this an attack against the mods in any way shape or form. I wouldn't do your job for money.
