Probably has to do with the general language of this forum being English. You can't expect moderators to translate everything that comes around.

*A distant "ping ping" is heard, of two cents dropped in the mod piggybank.*

Well if that were the case, then the Dutch thread, one of the longest running threads here, both time and length wise, would have been closed long, long ago.

The mods don't close the Dutch topic anymore :(

But anyway, maybe the squares were considered spammy?

 Apologies, but that made no sense. :(

I have the same question, other non-English threads are allowed so why not one in Japanese?

Those squares by the way are Japanese, Windows is not set up to handle it by defalt though.

Hm. I'm going to go out on a limb here an overrule the Mod that locked the thread.

Windows doesn't ship with the Asian character-set enabled, so chances are the Mod who locked it simply saw a series of question marks (or empty boxes, depending on browser), and didn't realise that it wasn't spam. I made that very mistake when I was first made a Forum Mod.

If it was locked for another reason, it can easily be re-locked.

Exactly. :(

Aha. I forget about those as I've never had to deal with a machine not set for Japanese.

Thank you. :D

The Dutch topic is kept open (but we want a new poll :p )

In the locked thread I saw a lot of little boxes ;)

Aha. NERVUN reminded me about the boxes, but thanks for clearing up about the Dutch topic. :D

I think this is a mistake. Any poster who consistently uses an ideographic language in a forum where the norm is Latin-based languages is, IMHO, spamming.

Many forums have that as rule, that everybody is required to speak English. Probably this one doesn't :)
Topics like this can easily become spammy.
