The UN problem

Yesterday I received this:

his nation has been determined to be in breach of UN rules, which allow each player to have just one nation in the UN at any given time. This is an official warning, to allow you to rectify the situation. If you do not comply, the UN will be forced to take action against you.

And I have registered only one nation in NationStates. I can't have more than one nation in the UN! It's impossible. Ob the other hand my ISP connects all its clients through one IP. And I have many friends which use the same ISP and play the game. I think you shuld consider another method of catching the cheaters!

For starters, this should probably go in Moderation, or perhaps technical.

There is no possible way for the mods to verify that you are indeed telling the truth, short of actually going around to your house.

Also, the mods use several different methods of identifying UN multis. Two of these are email and IPs. There are other methods which are not made known to the players.

Q: I wasn't cheating! I only have one UN member nation. Your game got it wrong.
A: This is possible, but unlikely. The game uses four different methods to detect if the same person is operating multiple UN members. These methods include IP address tracking and login pattern detection. If your nation was deleted, the game gathered very strong evidence that it was being operated from the same location as other UN members on multiple occasions.

The rest are methods that cannot reveal to us, for obvious reasons.

I've always suspected that one of the two unknown methods is a sort of password correlation. Y'know, if you have the same password as another nation it puts the two nations on a sort of short-list which the mods/game scripts watch with extra care for time correlations, IP similarities and so forth.

The fourth method, of course, is one of those 'magic 8-balls':

MYRTH, SHAKING MAGIC 8-BALL: "Are Mynation and Maxtopia controlled by the same player?"

MAGIC 8-BALL: "Concentrate harder and Ask again"

Actually, there's more than 4 ways now, and no we ain't telling.

Wait, seriously?Oh yes, that's all part of the "Moderator Entrance Exam". Before they let you in, you must determine what color underpants all the current mods are wearing at the time: using only your computer, a Magic 8-Ball, and a half-eaten toothpick.

Rumor has it the hardest undies' color to guess are Hack's. But perhaps that's just because few taking the Entrance Exam remember that "NONE" is an option ;).

Nor can I confirm (nor deny) that GMC guessed correctly on his first try (nor that Fris still hasn't guessed right...)

Wouldn't it be interesting if some guy did a test using diferent methods to see if the game can tell both nation's are in the UN. I would do it, but my nation is too important to put it in jeopardy.

I have heard that one of the methods is login pattern detection.

I have heard that one of the methods is login pattern detection.
Now I'm curious, what does that mean exactly? That I typically look at issues in the main window and open up a seperate window to look at any new telegrams, and usually wait til later for the forums, or some other pattern?

Actually you could do a non-correlation with posting time / game activity and then look at thread activities to see if somebody might be puppet wanking.

For example, the Intl Red Cross and Mikitivity never post at the same exact time, and yet amazingly are interested in similar topics. It doesn't take a wizard (just a script) to figure out that they *could* be the same human.

OK
I want to know why was my nation ejected from UN?

I don't have any other nations no matter Un memebers or not.

I've been logging in mostly from internet clubs, but I don't think that someone else would regulary log in after me on the same computer.

Before June 30th I was logging from computers at school and so did my classmates but ever since we have not logged in from a same computer and you can see that if you check it.

I don't think there's a reason to be ejected from UN that's why I woud like it if you check again.

And by the way - I didn't get such an warning!

It doesn't matter whether they were on just after you, all it requires is someone checking their nation once for alarm bells in the Mod Squad HQ to start ringing.

To avoid problems like this, you should never log into your UN nation from any computer likely to have multiple users - this includes schools, internet cafes/clubs, libraries and many other locations.

I have yet to work out why anyone would be so rude as to demand perfection from a FREE GAME.
It's not real so doesn't much matter.
You don't pay anything and so have no right to complain if it doesn't work quite how you like.
AND
The people who run things are volunteers. It seems unfair to moan at them.

If you find it very annoying and not working out how you like then go out and DO something real. You might find it more satisfying.

I can.

But naturally I wouldn't dare to tell anyone that the only mod to get every single question right on the first or second try was Katganistan... I wonder why that is? ;)
