Don't know if this is actually flaming or not, but ...

... it's definitely over the top to ask such a question ( with all that it implies ) to a veteran:

"How many children did you kill in the war, Eutrusca?" :(

I honestly don't trust myself to respond to that. :(

If it were my decision, I would say it was borderline flaming. I do not think questions like that are acceptable and are provoking the person whom is being questioned.

Now, again, that is my opinion, but I am rather appalled that someone would have the nerve to ask such a thing.....no decency.

Sigh. I'm afraid that the rabid "anti-war" group has turned the entire thread into little more than a flame war. Two people have now repeatedly accused me of killing babies in Vietnam. That hurt enough the first time. These posts only make me want to lash out.

Please close the thread at your discretion.

Let's not forget Tropical Montana's followup comment:

I'm really sorry that people like them would be so cruel to someone who risked his life in defense of our country. Forgive them, they know not what they do.

Forgive them, they know not what they do.

Even if forgiven, actions such as these should not be excused on public forums. His comment may have hurt many, just other's have not spoken up against it. It was deliberately aimed toward someone precisely, even at that, it is a provoking subject of hurt.

That's the specific message Eutrusca was referring to.

I may not agree with the war, but that was just a low blow and I think it should be dealt with.

Flamebait. Not flaming. Notice how he didn't say anything directly insulting, but instead offered a statement that one would reasonably believe would make you lash out against him/her. That's inciting you to flame. Flamebait.

This message brought to you by the letter T.

(That being said, my personal, non-moderator opinion is that's definately some serious flamebait.)

It's a very old and totally retorical question.
It's also a valid question to ask of anyone who has served in combat.
It demands that both sides of the war are looked at. Combatants and non-combatants ARE killed.
Yes it probably is flame bait is taken literally but I've never seen it used as a literal question and if it is retorical then it is valid and allowable.

I say it is flaming, they are trying to hurt you and make you feel guilty, wether you wanted to do what you did or not, it is totally unneccesary

That is so wrong. Definite flamebait there. Anyone with the intelligence to access the internet should know that nothing positive will come from asking a vietnam vet about baby killing.

Does he think he is helping the conversation? He's just making the anti-war side like pricks. Name tarnishing bastard. He doesn't speak for many of us.

Wow. Definitely some flamebaiting going on there, as well as perpetuating the stereotype that those that oppose the war have something against those individuals involved in the war. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm against this war and all, but it's just completely out of line to act as if the individuals, especially in your case, are to blame for whatever mistakes have been made. That's just sick, and in incredibly poor taste, anyway.
