Forum Suspensions

My account (Gramnonia) was suspended from using the forums for a week a couple of days ago, and I had no idea why until the other guy who'd been banned as well (Druidic Clans) told me we'd been banned for posting links to an online RPG. I'm not here to complain about that, but to make a suggestion: since the specific reason for a forumban isn't always clear, I think that with every suspension, a telegram or email should be sent to the suspended player with a link to the thread/post that got him suspended, plus maybe a quick explanation.

I think the warning value of a temporary suspension is being lost if you don't explain why it was done. Both DC and I are nice, law-abiding sort of people, and neither of us had any idea that posting referral links was against the rules. In fact, if he hadn't told me today, I'd still be in the dark. An explanation would have been much appreciated, and it would've made the lesson stick in my memory for a long time.

So, what do you think? Is it workable?

A) I think this should be in mod, not tech
B) When you are forumbanned, I believe you must find out why with the GHP, not posting around the ban to find out why
C) I think at present, there is a Telegram that goes out informing you of a forumban, though I am not positive on that, and if the mod who imposed it feels like it they can customize in the reason as to why

Ok, if you are not informed of the reason for your forumban via telegram by the moderator who banned you, you have the options of either waiting for the ban to expire and asking in the moderation forum, or posting a report to the Getting Help Page asking for a reason.

It is policy to delete the banned nation if they create a puppet to evade the forumban. That will be waived in this case only, but do not post further to this or any other thread until your forumban has expired.

Utter nonsense.

You were banned for posting links to a recruitment-style game. It's in the One Stop Rules Shop, and at least one fellow player told you that such links were against the rules.

Pure out of curiousity, and nothing else; Why is that forbidden? Is that just because you don't like other on-line games leeching from our fast ammount of members?

Mostly because of people advertising spam-games like outwar.

MGH, you're the one who's talking nonsense here. Do you realize I last read the One Stop Rules Shop when I joined?! I'm sorry if I can't keep every single pettifogging regulation in memory, but this forum just isn't that important to me. Nor do I check the rules every time before I post. Druidic Clans asked me to bump his thread, so I did.

Indeed, a fellow player did say that the links were against the rules. Did DC or I post anything else afterward? No. A one-week forumban was extreme, especially for a first offense, and you didn't message either one of us with reasons for our ban. Your sour attitude and unprofessional approach did the moderation team no credit. In other words, get bent.

(For those of you who're wondering why I'm posting this. I bookmarked it at the time of the incident and just found it now. Reading Most Glorious Hack's arrogant post and reflecting on his high-handed power abuse brought on the red curtain of blood and now I'm writing this out of pure anger. If he's still a mod, he should be fired.)

PS: GMC Military Arms, I did not create a puppet for the express purpose of starting this thread. If you'd checked join dates, Grampuppet has been around almost as long as Gramnonia.

umm, did you actually READ the post Gramnonia made starting this thread?

He did not contest the rule. He did not complain about getting a forum ban. He has not asked for the suspension to be lifted. He even said he was a law abiding member, and would learn a lesson from this. He later said that he did not repost the game link when the other player told him not to.

All he did is politely suggest that when you suspend someone, you tell them what they are being suspended for. I think it is a good idea. A lot of people on this forum make dozens of posts per day, if they are suspended and not told why, how are they supposed to learn and not make the mistake again? Some people actually accidently forget some of the rules, and are not intentionally trying to break.

Not our problem you didn't pay attention to the rules. You break 'em, you get punished for 'em. No exceptions.

Druidic Clans asked me to bump his thread, so I did.
You bumped his thread, which was illegal by the way, and you added your own link to it, which was also illegal. You also added a second link, in your second bump of the thread. Don't play innocent.

Indeed, a fellow player did say that the links were against the rules. Did DC or I post anything else afterward? No. A one-week forumban was extreme, especially for a first offense, and you didn't message either one of us with reasons for our ban.
Posting links such as that are normally reason enough to delete you. You're lucky that Hack didn't do it, and you should be thanking him.

Your sour attitude and unprofessional approach did the moderation team no credit.
And how is he being disrespectful? Again, you're lucky you didn't get deleted. Hack has been very professional about this. If anything, you're the one with the sour attitude. You broke the rules and you got punished for it. Your 'Woe is me' attitude isn't going to get you anywhere.

In other words, get bent.
Flaming a moderator? Nice touch.

Your personal bias against Hack is pretty obvious. He has in no way abused his powers. I concur with Hack's judgement in this situation, as I would have done the same thing, had I seen the thread first. That's what you get for breaking the rules buddy.
