I didn't say that there was absolutly NO freedom of speech, it just doen't exist in the sense that we get in RL, you could say pretty much anything you want, but that is no true here on the boards, and although this may be a public site Max Barry shells out $400 a month, he OWNS this site and jolt OWNS these servers, they make the rules and we have to follow them, if he would have said "I do not like gays" that would have been ok, but what he said was out of line and he got the right punishment, you break a rule and you pay the price.

How much do you pay to use this game? How much do you think the bvandwidtyh that this game requires costs? Do you see a discrepnency there. You are not expressing an opinion in public. You have come into someone's private space, with their permission. In that private space there are no rules of fredom of speech, there are just the rules that that person sets. Would you like someone that you invited into your home to start badmouthing about something, to start insulting the other guests directly. I guess not. I guess that if it were your space you would ask them to desist or to leave. Now that is what is happening here. If you don't like it you have the freedom of speech ouitside of this space to complain about it. No one is taking that away from you. What you do not have is the right to decide what is and is not acceptable within a private domain.

One additional point, this forum is hosted in the UK. There is no guarantee of freedom of speech there, it is something that is done by common courtesy and being judicious in your use of language. Getting all righteous about it will not impress anyone.

Parliament and the government make the minimum rules which people in that society have to obey. They do not determine what is the acceptable behaviour in a private location, they only determine what is not acceptable (murder, rape, assault etc.). It is up to the owner of the private location to determine what, over and above the minimum standards set by the government, are to be the rules of behaviour there. If they object to smoking, you are not permitted to smoke in their space. If they don't like rock music, you will not be able to listen to Korn, if they are traditional Japanese, you will have to remove your shoes, if they don't like swearing you will not be permitted to swear. The government has no say in these private rules. What in that is so difficult for you to understand. I suppose that you are too young to ever have had to create your own acceptable standards for any private place, but one day you will, (if you survive the decade or two that you appear to be short of for doing this) and then you will understand. Until then, go ask an adult near you as to who sets the rules in their home.

I have no idea what he said. I didn't reafd his post. The point being it does not matter what he said, it matters that whatever it was it was judged to be unacceptable by the rules of this forum. Those rules are clearly stated and easy to find.

Justice concerns public issues. This decision was a private one. If I choose to kick you out of my house it does not have to be a just decision, it is my house after all, I decide. There are avenues of appeal open here. If it was truly unjust try using them instead of whingeing here.

1) you can ask for a mod review of a mod action, but do it in a polite manner.

Hear that? Congress shall make no law. Freedom of speech does not apply here because this is a privately operated message board, and the clauses granting free speech are there to protect you from reprisal from the government, not to prevent private citizens removing you from their private property for being obnoxious.

If he wants to perminantly ban every nation with the letter 'j' in their name, he can. You have no right to use the free service he grants you and he is therefore entitled to deny you that service if you refuse to act in accordance with the rules he has chosen to put in place, or for any other reason.

Definitely, it's almost universal in democratic countries to include such a clause but still, the one clause he is referring to only applies to Americans. I've seen it before. Many Americans think that our constitution, our laws, and our will should apply to everyone. Hell way back when it was thought that way by Europeans too (White Man's Burden). So it's nothing new, it's just our latest thing. You know how it goes..

Speaking of law, since the internet is worldwide, it doesn't really have a law does it? I mean aside from the legal things like copyright, TOS, etc. it doesn't really have any governing body adhering to it right? Or am I totally wrong...
