im pretty sure they're allowed as long as they don't get out of control. i.e. like 7 threads covering one topic, but I'm not a mod.

I thought the term "copycat thread" refered to threads that become faddy and clog up bandwidth i.e the "wanna become a..." threads or the "ask a..." threads.

It's not a copycat thread, and probably won't become one unless a bunch of other generalites decide to start one too. Also, you're far from the first to start a thread like this.
