If there were a whole lot less of these sorts of posts ... But we digress, back to killing the ignorant n00b... ... there would be a whole lot less call for mods to close these idiocy threads. They'd just die quietly.

It might be time to work out an appropriate moderation response to the anti-n00bs in II. It's getting old, fast.

I definatly agree with you there.

I've posted TONS of threads reporting mindless 'n00b' spam in II, but the problem is definatly intensified by people who bait the troll and keep the thread active.

I'd definatly be interested in seeing what kind of ruling (if any, who knows) will result from this.

Personally, I'd just give them a "n00bslap", which is like a warning without the official status.

I wonder why people have become intolerant of the newer ones this quickly. We didn't seem to have this problem before.

In all honesty, anybody who is going to respond to a "n00b war" thread with nothing but provocation should be dealt with in the same manner those who post "in before the lock" crap in General and elsewhere. It's all spam, and if it was cracked down on more or at least in its more rampant forms, people would get the message.

(I'm not saying the moderators don't crack down on it, I just don't think those that post in both the ways I listed above realize it's against the rules. Hence, why they do it.)

The problem is not the new people that are willing to learn the ropes. The problem is people who come into II and post garbage that consists of smilies and 2 or 3 words.

I've rallied the II community to address the problem of baiting n00b spammers here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=430577

I agree totally, they should be treated as 'in before the lock' and other nonsense.

II is probably one of the lesser moderated forums on NS, and I know it's not being done intentionally by the mods. I think we need need a mod (be it a current mod or a new one, makes no difference to me) or mods to moderate II, sort of the way some mods tend to moderate General more than other forums.

I don't necessarily think you'd need a moderator to go through it all the time. I just think that it needs to be made perfectly clear that spam is not going to be tolerated. I don't think people understand that within the confines of this game whether it be in General or in II.

That's something I don't think the mods will ever agree to do, or if they did it in the past, I doubt they will again.

the whole trap of whether or not to police RP.
I guess the question becomes, "When does n00b-bashing stay RP, and when does it become malicious spam?"

What I'd like to see is a consensus opinion on the subject, followed by clearly codified rules that could be added to the Rules sticky for II and NS. That's part of what I'm hoping will come out of this, at least as a framework.

Think about it, and post about it. I'll grab a summary later and post it in the comments thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=416022).

I'm not talking about a full time II mod, just a mod that frequents the forum and keeps it clean (it used to be TJHairball). II gets more than its fair share of spam and pointless threads, regardless of the RP content.

heh...funny how we don't have this problem in NationStates

Must be something about II that makes it such a n00b magnet
