Here's what Frisbeeteria said:

Probably not a great "first and only post". Participate a bit before advertising other games, wouldja? Not to be an ass about it, but we really don't encourage using Max Barry's bandwidth to encourage our membership to look elsewhere.

The thread regarding the Sims 2 wasn't locked. I want to know why this was and that wasn't.

Super Power 2 is a CD-Rom game. It needs to be installed on the computer.

I own SuperPower 2, so I already know that. However, I'm not sure if the moderators know that (they might have thought that it was a rival online game, and locked it because of advertising on a person's first post). I guess we will just have to wait and see...

I made it clear in the thread that it was a CD-ROM game and nothing at all like this.

Wanna play online one day? :D

Unless someone has mind reading powers, i'm almost certain you will never know. Only the mod that locked you knows, and statitical odds say that he wont ever see this board.
In case you were wondering, there is no point to this post.

1) it isn't even my thread. Neither one of them
2) I did this because it was locked whereas The Sims 2 thread (another game) wasn't.
3) I don't care if Fris doesn't see this thread but a mod around here probably will see this thread.

Does it really matter?

I'm just trying to figure out why one Game thread was locked and not the other. It smells of hypocricy if a game thread can remain open (the Sims 2 thread) and another locked (Super Power 2)

Has the poster posted anything else?

I see ONE post in his/her history. When there is a single post asking people to go to a website, it's almost certain that the account was made to advertise a product and nothing more -- especially since there was no more clarification or explanation made.

Spam is not allowed, you know.

I haven't seen the "The Sims 2" thread, but I am willing to bet that there is discussion of gameplay and strategy going on in that one. (If I'm wrong, link me up.)

But not in direct competion to this site though. Wow a political CD-Rom game being talked about on a politically based interative website. You see my point

I also see your point though, it did then go into a discussion

As for him not posting again, Remember that not everyone is on the same timezone Katganistan. He probably posted and signed off (don't know for sure though)!

I will agree though that if he doesn't post in it again then I would back up the locking.

Heh, ok, I remember that thread -- I think I even posted in it.

There is a difference in the presentation, if you examine them side by side. The one for Superpower 2 describes the game and sends you to the website in the first post -- an ad.

In the Sims 2, the OP asks if anyone else finds it addictive, then there is a post saying it's awful, etc. etc. -- and no one is trying to sell the game or referring you to the EA Games site.

I can see why the thread was locked. If one is, however, discussing the merits and/or flaws of a game without actually providing an advertising link, I shouldn't think it would be a problem.

In that case, would I be permited to create a new SuperPower 2 thread, in which purpose is to talk about the game while not advertising the game?

There is a rule about posting past lock, and I wouldn't want to see anyone violate that unwittingly. While I personally don't think a discussion about the game without advertising it would be a problem, I would advise you to wait until Frisbeeteria has a chance to respond to the request.

Katganistan is exactly correct.

Somebody came in to #themodcave and asked whether that thread was legal. I loaded up the link and decided it was spam, and then locked it. I then went back to doing the other things I was doing. If there's a Sims thread, I certainly never saw it.

Call it hypocrisy if you want. I call it "making dinner".

I kinda like the idea of people claiming mod bias against SuperPower 2, it's makes for a interesting new spin on the silly complaints of mod bias we hear from all sides of the political spectrum.

The Moderation forum is not the place to continue the discussion, folks.

Go ahead. Make a non-spammy thread if you want. I didn't lock the last one because it was about SuperPower, I locked it because it was spamvertising. If it too turns to spam, we'll deal with it then.
