Q: What is the appropriate way to talk to game admins?

Is there an email or IRC option available for a civil discussion?

Well, I can only speak of what I know personally. If you use the "Getting help" page, it goes back to the regular game mods. If you email admin@nationstates.net it's usually Salusa who gets it. But, Salusa hasn't seemed to be around too much lately as he seems to have found work at Amazon.com. So you can basically email Max or Violet, which is more or less the same thing, but I have been getting the impression that Max doesn't watch NS too much anymore given he does have a new book coming out and his wife is about to have a baby. So, I think it's a case of sucking it up. At least that is what it appears to be in my opinion.

EDIT: Oh just for you folks who think Max is [violet] that is not what I was implying, I was simply saying that really only Max or [violet] can really over-rule etc.. that's all I meant.

Salusa has his own email, salusa@nationstates.net, as is explained in the One-Stop Rules Shop (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=416023) under "Appeals", if I remember correctly.

Max and both admins have had serious attacks of RL lately, as Xanaz has pointed out. Don't expect a timely response.

Thanks Xanaz (were you also Stephistan ????) and Fris. :) I'm not looking for a timely response, but a long-term dialog with respect to _forum_ management.

"Attacks of RL" is a good descriptor though ... and I see serious signs of it impacting the forums in general.

How does a game admin or Max not answering an e-mail because they have real lives impacting the forums?

Yes I was/am.

As for Salusa's email, he also pretty much handles or at least use to handle admin@nationstates.net. In the early days it was [violet] but even she is not around that much, much like Max.

Sorry about that, I meant that RL is probably attacking more than just the admins.

And it sounds like they will maybe reply, but it might take a very long-time ... which is fine. :)

This has never been the case. I handle salusa@nationstates.net and nothing else.

Oh really? Sorry about that Sal, I guess a moderator lied to me then. Hey it happens huh. Anyway, Sal can usually get ya what you need, if he thinks you need it that is..lol..;)

Just so I know for future reference, do you game mods prefer one method of communication over another? (Considering I have read of 3 ways to contact you aside from the moderation forum, which I understand is primarily for forum moderation.) Should players use the Getting Help page, your e-mail address directly, or #themodcave on IRC? Or does it all get about the same attention?

The One-Stop Rules Shop breaks down which types of request can go in which type of reportage.

#themodcave may seem like the most convenient and fastest, but it doesn't always work that way. Unless it's a genuinely time-sensitive issue, we'd prefer forum posts for forum problems and GHRs for game problems.

Don't email or telegram mods on game business. That's not the method of choice, and you probably won't get quick service.

Don't email the admins except for appeals as defined in the rules sticky. Moderators are the front line for good reason, so that admins can deal with broader issues.

We've got a good system that works. Use it.

That's a very interesting conclusion to draw.

I only draw it because it's what happened. I couldn't be clearer. It is what I was told some time ago by a mod that will remain nameless as I like that mod that you were now handling all the admin@nationstates.net requests. It wasn't exactly hard to believe either, you must admit, you do post freely on the news page and have access to everything Sal. Anyway, if you say you've never been on the other end of admin@nationstates.net, I'll take your word for it. It's not really a big deal I don't believe anyway. Although I think I even remember some posts in mod about you or [violet] would get back to people if they emailed admin@nationstates.net. That however I can't say 100%, because I have neither the desire nor inclination to try and find said thread nor is it really all that important to me. I was just saying what I knew to the best of my knowledge trying to be helpful. Sometimes to the best of our knowledge can be wrong, it happens. Which of course is what I said in the other post to you.
