Q: Reviewing Deleted Messages?

Hello,

I've been running a thread in the UN forum titled "United Nations Association (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=371985)" since late 2004. The thread is basically a diplomatic "store", not unlike the roleplayed stores and tools in the International Incidents forum. I use the thread to post updates to NS UN cheat sheets and indices that I've created.

I updated my thread in mid-June, only to today find out that a moderator not only deleted my (second) most recent update [today's update naturally being the most recent updates], which pointed to my subject index, but in the moderator justification left a rather RUDE comment, that I thought was totally unjustified.

It seems to me that moderators at times abuse their "neutrality" by using the comments of a delete to personally attack players they dislike. I feel this is a double standard.

I'm asking that a *different* moderator look at the deleted message (if that is possible) and share it with me as well. Specifically the inappropriate moderator comment says, "What part of "no sniping" do you fail to grasp?", which when left as a comment seems to me to be sniping directed towards me. Given that the post was a link to a UNA (store) update and my justification (which I thought I did not mention ANY other players ... hence would not be considered trolling / baiting) and that I've been doing posting many similar updates in that very thread for an extremely long time (since Nov. 2004), that the moderator deletion and remark were very inappropriate.

Thank you.

I think the reason is that I replied to it, after reading what you said about moving it to that topic. My reply itself I did not think was sniping, but a mere explanation. I know I included myself in the comments that I think would have been taken the worst, so as to attempt to prevent it from being taken the wrong way.

If that is the reason why yours was deleted in addition to mine, then I apologize. In any case, I do not want my post reviewed, but to stay deleted so as to take the safest route.

Perhaps my phrasing was not the most politik, but to say I've gotten sick of you and DLE's near constant bickering would be a massive understatement. If you want another Mod to review, that is certainly possible. Any Mod can review the deleted posts.

Actually I was *not* offended by your post in that thread, and was simply going to just ignore it. Believe me, had I been upset, given that the thread is basically a store front, I'd simply have asked for a thread split -- which I believe is a long established NationStates practice.

I've spent a great deal of time with the UNA, and it means a great deal to me. I would like to think that glancing at these files would illustrate my attachment to them and that people might find the files useful, much like many other player created tools and indices. It seems to me that there could have been a far better way to handle this moderator's decision.

Ultimately I just don't want to see this misunderstanding happen again. That is why I'd like this to be discussed -- and for that being able to at least see the post *here* will certainly help me.

Have you ever considered the possibility that either of us has felt terribly mistreated? While I can't speak for DLE, I certainly feel that way.

The problem I'm raising here isn't myself nor DLE, but rather that when the general NationStates rule "play nice" isn't followed by moderators, it sets a tone for us all. In this case, you acted in a thread where I've allowed other players to attack me without ATTACKING them by deleting my store updates (which I do from time to time) with no real explanation.

I feel that was a very inappropriate action on your part, guided by the prejudice you admit to have against me (highlighted in red).

So I'd still like to at least *see* my deleted post. Here is an appropriate place or via telegram.

Reviewed. Grow skin, Mikitivity, because Hack ain't flaming and you two are sniping at each other. The comment that you two have been told to stop sniping at each other endlessly is a simple observation which is in no way inappropraite, you are simply trying to hold Hack to a ridiculously high standard of behaviour because he is a moderator.

To be honest, it looks more like the wrong post was deleted; DLE's replies are to the quoted parts of a different post, by the look of things. I'll leave that for Hack to check over, but I fully endorse his comment and will state categorically that it is not inappropraite for a moderator to be vaguely disrespectful to those with a 'history' together. If he'd, say, called you stupid motherfuckers it would be a different story, obviously.
