Trolling?

I am not appealing the decision so much as asking for an explanation for the variance in punishment. They appear to have made the exact same infraction in exactly the same way (both were crude, based on stereotypes, and intended as jokes). Why was one warned and the other forumbanned?

I would request the decision to forum ban Sinuhue for 5 days be reconsidered. It was clear to me that she and the other party were joking. They were both crude, but those of us following understood.
Did someone complain? If not, please review and consider re-instating her forum privileges. No harm done.
Thanks.

As far as I know, Sinuhue has no previous warnings.

Ditto - though the Puppet warning has been explained.

I did not consider her reposte to Newbie's LOL to be anything but a reposte - especially as it included the smiley.

Your call, but I'm sad. :(

Ok, I hate doing this because I feel like a puppet, but Sinuhue asked that I post something to the mods and anyone complaining about the ban.

I realise that I am not innocent in this case, and I do not want to be represented, or to represent myself as such. My puppet HerPower was deleted, and I received a major warning. I received a warning for my actions towards VoteEarly. There have been a few other friendly reminders to cool it down. I understand why I was forumbanned when Rogue Nations was not. The only thing that I would ask, is not that the ban be lifted, but that if it is at all possible, I get some sort of warning if my posts really are going to far. I honestly did not have the intent to flame, or troll, or offend anyone, and since it's clear I wasn't able to make that explicit, I would have been happy to remove the post and apologise. So please, I don't want anyone thinking I want to be a martyr, or that I feel the forumban COMPLETELY undeserved...but I would like to remind everyone that a LOT of remarks, taken out of context can seem very damning. Again, I apologise if I actually offended anyone, I accept the ban, and thanks for thinking of me!

Like I said in the original post, I, for one, am not asking for a change in the ruling. I was only asking for an explanation. My experience that more drastic infractions have previously been met with less and that Sinuhue is a respectful poster who has a good record for interesting debate and reasonable responses.

The disparity in punishments is due to the fact that Sinuhue has prior offenses on record. Rogue Newbie is far from angelic, himself, but has not (as yet) built up quite the same rap sheet against himself.

I have conferred with other Moderators and their opinion is that I misinterpreted the nature of the posts. Malice was not the intent and I should not have come down quite so hard on these two. Consequently, I am reversing my judgment and retracting the official warnings for this specific incident. Warnings for prior offenses still stand, however. For Sinuhue, this means that the forumban will be lifted and removed from her record.

I apologize to both players for my error.

That said, playflaming and playtrolling are not appreciated on these forums and NationStates players are discouraged from participating in it. Topics will be locked for this sort of thing.

As I said in the general thread about this, I figured you would be fair. I assumed that I must have misunderstood something as it really seemed a little out of character for you. I am actually guilty of what Sinuhue and RN did fairly frequently, so I'll take this as a lesson. I definitely can see how it could have been taken the wrong way and could have caused a problem in the thread. I guess it's easier to see when someone else does it.

Thanks for taking a look at this, Cog. Have a great night.

Again, Ditto.

Maybe Fris will add your (Cog) point on Play Flaming to the Sticky? (In big bold letters...)

Thanks for your attention on this matter.

Seriously. Thank you Cog. I've been reading the discussion around my post, and yes, I can see that really, with a remark like that, it's almost impossible to make sure that no one gets offended. The intent to offend was not there, but I will try to be more careful about making these sorts of comments in the future. I honestly did NOT expect a reversal of the ban, and I was willing to accept that, so this comes as a very unexpected, and welcome surprise.
