Sig Length

Koroser's signature is 9 lines in a largish font. Should this be looked into?

The link is a post by Koroser, with signatures on it should be visible.

That sig looks fine to me, it doesn't look too big. The font is smaller then the default so you can't say it's 'largish'

Isn't the ruling 8 lines? I have quite a high screen resolution and see nine. Font size looks almost double to the normal font.

I see it as 9 lines, if he took out the spaces between some of his lines it would be less than 8. But he is using a rather small font, looks about as it is a size 1 on the forum meter or something.

IIRC, it's 8 lines in normal sized font which my sig is. In the font size he's using, it's actually a little smaller then my 8 lines.

I could be wrong.

From Fris' Sticky in this very forum:

Signature Spam: Forum signatures give you space to include a few carefully selected links or quotes. Sigs are attached to every post, and must therefore conform to clutter-reducing rules. Maximum size should never exceed eight lines, including blank lines and quote lines. (A short quote takes up 5 lines - "quote", attribution line, two lines for the box, and one line for the quote). Large font sizes should be avoided and may be trimmed without warning. Posting forbidden links is not allowed. Jolt policy prohibits images in signatures as well, so don't try IMG tags.

Funny, I see his sig as quite a large font size. Is this just my computer? (see link for screenshot - is quite wide)

I think it's just your computer. This is what I'm seeing:

Could be. If so, then it's a technical issue. I might put this up there sometime soon, got to go now though, so won't post again until tuesday

It actually looks like it could be a problem with how you have your sizing set up in your browser setting, because even the text in the post itself looks bigger than what I see in my screen.

I see his sig as having really big font size too...

Some (older) versions of IE don't read Size=0 and Size=1 properly, and expand them. When I use a particular work computer, this happens. I don't know why IE does it, but it's pretty annoying. If the size of my sig is larger than the text of my message, you're one of those unlucky people, as my sig is Size=0. Upgrading to a newer version of IE would probably help, as would switching browsers (I've never had this problem with Netscrape or Mozilla/Firefox).

As for the particular sig in question, it's fine. Originally it used the default size, and was about 12 lines long. I chopped it down myself. Suppose I could yank out one of the spaces though.

It looks like nine lines.

I'm seeing eleven lines of standard size type, plus breaks, but I do have my browser windows set rather small, and I use IE 5.1, which is undoubtedly a large portion of the problem.

As Hack says, it's likely to be a problem with individual browsers, rather than the sig itself.

My browser settings show 9 lines, but small font. The sig isn't obtrusive for me.

I'm using Safari 1.3, so I shouldn't be getting many IE problems.

EDIT: Hack, I'm seeing your sig as the same size as mine

I see the sig as being 9 lines in a "smallish" font...

running IE 6.0 on 1024x768

To Tsaraine, perhaps it is about time to update that?

Or get a better browser (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/). ;)

Hey, did I say I liked this browser? It's just the best I can get on this OS, and this OS is the best I can get on this hardware, and I'm too poor to upgrade ...

Anyhoo, I believe the problem is solved, or at least explained?

From the sound of it... sounds like you talking ME here...

As TH pointed out, you can try a different type of browser, but I've found IE to be the most stable and web-friendly browser (maybe I'll create a thread in general later singing its praises) for I know several of my codes/scripts do not run on mozzilla, firefox, or safari, but do on Netscape and IE...

Anyway, I degress, and will stop the semi-thread-jack

Actually, no, he runs an older OS on a Mac. Can we please quit trying to solve everyone's problems by saying "switch browsers"? It doesn't help.
